Kia EV9 AWD GT-Line review
Verdict
The Kia EV9 plays in a league of its own, but has the potential to boss the space even when competition arrives. It is a great vehicle that does exactly what it’s supposed to by being a reliable travel companion that offers a lot of comfort. So far its only competitors are much more expensive or non-existent, which is the reason why the EV9 sells so well. The EV9 99.8 kWh AWD GT-Line offers a lot for the money and involves no major compromises compared to its pricier rivals.
It keeps up with traffic and even allows for fun off-road. It uses a lot power, but has an ample battery and quick charging. It's far from the most spirited ride, but offers a lot of comfort. The EV9’s strongest point is that it is just good in every category, even if it's not going to top any of them.
Choosing the Kia EV9 is a smart decision, for anyone looking for a big practical vehicle with distinct styling and many creature comforts.

Kia EV9 wins World Car Awards' car of the year
The Kia EV9 was voted the car of the year at the World Car Awards for 2024.
The large SUV narrowly beat the Volvo EX30, while the BMW i5 was a close third.
The EV9 also won the award for the world's best EV.

The Kia EV9 will enter US production in May, could get full tax credit in 2025
The Kia EV9 is already on sale in the US but units are shipped over from South Korea. That's about to change as soon as Kia and Hyundai's Metaplant in West Point, Georgia starts production this May.
This will make the EV9 eligible for at least part of the $7,500 tax credit because the EV will be assembled in the US.
The potential issue stopping the Kia EV9 from getting the full tax credit is the fact that its battery is produced with battery materials, sourced from a "country of concern" - China. The battery itself must also be produced in the US in order to quality for the full tax credit.

Kia first unveiled the 577bhp EV6 GT way back in 2022, and it has now confirmed we’ll get similarly bonkers versions of every single one of the EVs it launches over the next few years. Yep, the all-wheel drive performance EV trend isn’t going to slow down any time soon.
“The GT variant is designed to be that halo product – to build more desire and to turn heads a bit more,” said Kia Europe marketing boss David Hilbert.
“That's what EV6 GT did, and there will be an EV9 GT coming very, very soon. I think we’ve confirmed an EV5 GT too.”
Blimey, Kia really is going all-in on the GT train. The EV9 is already available with a twin-motor powertrain that makes 378bhp, so what on earth will this 2.6-tonne family bus be like when it gets well over 500bhp?
“For EV3, that’s coming in 2026. That will be an all-wheel drive GT variant. The GTs are never going to be the big volume sellers because they’re niche, and let’s be honest the performance of our standard EVs is pretty good anyway,” said Hilbert.
