2023 Kia EV9 primed as premium electric range-topper

The car will be Kia’s largest ever production model; will be officially revealed in 2023

Kia will look to take on Range Rover with its new EV9 electric SUV, which is set to be revealed early next year before it comes to the UK.

Spotted testing on European roads, where it has undergone hot- and cold-weather testing, the Kia EV9 will be the Korean brand's largest European model so far, sitting at the top of its range.

It was previewed as a concept earlier this year, when Kia confirmed it would be targeting buyers of premium SUVs. However, it doesn’t expect to sell the EV9 in great numbers, due to its size.

The prototype seen testing was camouflaged, but Kia's European design chief, Gregory Guillaume, described the concept as “a close preview” – although some aspects aren't expected to make it to production, including the rear-hinged rear doors and the lack of a B-pillar.

The new pictures of the SUV show off its large size, wide front end and hinted-at horizontal headlights.

Its long wheelbase (3100mm) is also evident, with the EV9’s size the largest that can be achieved on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the same as used by the Kia EV6.

The E-GMP also has an 800V electrical architecture, enabling rapid-charging at rates of up to 350kW.

It's expected to be launched with a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive range-topper, as well as an entry-level variant fitted with a single motor powering the rear axle.

Kia wants its upcoming EV9 to do proper 4WD stuff

Yes indeed – we’re talking about a deep-water-wading, hill-climbing, all-electric Kia. The future is a strange place to live in

When we say ‘off-roading’, what do you immediately think of? Land Cruisers, probably, Land Rovers if you’re British and Wranglers if you very much aren’t. Or perhaps that the entire endeavour could only be more tedious if you had to walk it instead of driving.

What you probably aren’t thinking – although feel free to correct the record on that if we’ve done you wrong – is an electric SUV from the company that did those Hamster Rap commercials.

But here we are. Well, nearly are, in any case. Kia’s EV9 SUV will arrive early next year, and its job, in Kia’s own words, is to ‘transform the large electric SUV segment’. That’s not exactly the biggest or most populous niche, so what does it actually mean to transform it? Yep, you guessed it – being properly off-road capable.

are we ever gonna get a new Rio or are they just gonna let the Polo dominate the hatchback MArket.

SA gets the current Rio already, there was a mild update & SA got it no too long ago IIRC.

An all new Rio is still a few years away.
Yeah but the update wasnt even that drastic, They just changed the bloody badge and bumpers. We need a new Rio asap.

Production ready Kia EV9 is put through its final tests

Kia EV6 just launched officially in the US and took the country by storm with its GT model. Not wanting to let the momentum slip away, the company is finalizing testing of the upcoming EV9 - am electric SUV. We first saw the EV9 in 2021 at the Automobility show in Los Angeles.

The tests are progressing quickly, only recently we published photos of the EV9 testing in Germany, that car was still wearing quite heavy camouflage. The car we have here today doesn’t hide anymore, its camouflage is more of a design feature than anything else.

The production ready Kia EV9 is shockingly close to its prototype, starting at the front we see the vertical headlights and the LED light running across the car. They are almost identical to the ones from Concept EV9, the front spoiler, the bumper, the shape of the bonnet - all of it is retained from the prototype.

Kia EV9 teaser campaign is now in full swing ahead of early 2023 launch

Kia's first electric SUV will be the EV9, and it's going to make its debut in the first quarter of next year - so before the end of March. It looks like the Korean company couldn't wait until 2023, however, to start its teaser campaign for the upcoming EV. And thus, Kia's arm in India took to Twitter to build up some excitement for the EV9 with a quick video depicting its very unique shape. Take a look for yourself:

The EV9 concept was unveiled in November 2021, and more details about the car were made available this March. It's going to be a three-row SUV, 4.93m long (that's 194"), with a wheelbase of 3.1m (122"). Unsurprisingly it's using the E-GMP platform like the EV6. In the beefiest version it's expected to have a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) time of 5 seconds, and go for as long as 540 km (336 miles) on one charge.

2024 Kia EV9 Could Have Up to 400 Horsepower: Report

A leaked customer survey provides details about Kia’s upcoming full-size crossover EV.

Kia’s third EV to come to consumers, after the Niro EV and hot selling EV6, will be the large EV9 crossover. Previewed by the 2021 concept—the automaker has teased the upcoming crossover, but it’s been quiet about specs. But if a report from Car & Driver is to be believed, the upcoming EV crossover will offer up to 400 hp and cost over $73,000.

Possible details of the upcoming EV9 were leaked through the most random of means via a customer survey. A reader of Car & Driver found the specs in a customer survey sent out to prospective EV owners to gauge interest in what kind of EV they would buy. The reader took a screenshot and sent the details of the EV9 to C&D, who shared them.

Kia EV9 specs and prices leak - will start from $56,000

We officially have a leaky Tuesday - first the 2024 Polestar 2 details came out and now Kia EV9 is flexing its specification. This one isn’t a clear-cut case, though, and the specifications have been intentionally obfuscated.

The details come from a customer survey that Kia sent to existing Telluride owners. Now, the Telluride is Kia’s largest SUV and the company clearly hopes, the owners of the ginormous SUV will make a switch to the upcoming EV9. Why, you ask? Well, let’s have a look at the question Kia sent.

Kia sent the following table to Telluride owners with just one question - which model or trim would you be most interested in buying? Kia is fishing for the most desirable model for the EV9 as it surely wants to gauge interest before deciding which trims make sense. As the company is trying to gauge the demand, it has to give the customers some choices.

What we can see in the table, is that the two entry models will have a single-motor setup with 200hp. In reality this may mean the company will use the same motor we already have in the Kia EV6 LRwhich in that car pumps out 228hp. The cheapest entry model will start about $56,000 and will come with the smallest battery and around 220 miles of range.

2024 Kia EV9 possible public sighting as nearly an exact clone of the electric SUV concept

The 2024 Kia EV9 is launching later this year as one of the most highly anticipated electric vehicles to hit the market. A newly posted video on social media appears to show the sleek, big-bodied electric Kia EV9 as a near replica of the electric SUV concept.

2024 Kia EV9 spotted in new video

We got our first look at the Kia EV9 at the 2021 LA Auto show, the automaker’s second dedicated all-electric model as part of its new EV series branding after the high-flying EV6 crossover.

The Kia EV9 will ride on parent company Hyundai’s, E-GMP platform – the same one the award-winning IONIQ5 and EV6 sit on. In August, Kia teased photos of a camouflaged EV9 during its final stages of testing.
Just before the turn of the year, Kia India took the sheets off, showing us a closer look at the vehicle’s unique shape and edges on its Twitter.

Although Kia has yet to release specifications for the EV9, a customer survey sent to Electrek from a current Telluride owner gave us an idea of what we can expect.

2024 Kia EV9 spotted in the wild for the first time

The debut of the all-electric Kia EV9 is inevitably approaching, the car is scheduled to launch some time later this year - or so we thought. Recent spy shots were all pointing to vehicles in advanced testing stages but still months away from production. If this latest Kia EV9 sighting is real, the debut is much closer than we expected.

First shown to the public at the 2021 LA Auto Show, the Kia EV9 is built on the same E-GMP platform as all electric Kia, Hyundai and Genesis models. This extremely flexible platform underpins the fastest Kia ever - the EV6 GT - as well as the award winning Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the even better looking Hyundai Ioniq 6.

While there are still no confirmed specifications of the EV9, a recent survey conducted by Kia with current Telluride owners, suggests the electric SUV will have up to 240 miles of driving range and maximum towing capacity of around 4,500 lbs in the AWD trim.

We have seen many spy photos last year, even Kia jumped on the bandwagon and posted its own shots of the fully camouflaged EV9 undergoing final tests. If the recent post from Instagram user CocheSpias1 is in fact real, the Kia EV9 may be ready for debut any time soon. In a short video below you can just spot the EV9 passing by - blink and you miss it. Word of warning - turn the volume down:

Kia EV9 flagship SUV confirmed for mid-March reveal

The car will be Kia’s largest ever production model; will be officially revealed at the end of this month

Kia is priming its flagship EV9 electric SUV to be revealed this month ahead of its UK arrival as a competitor to the Range Rover.

Following a 44-month developmet, the EV9 is set to be the Korean brand's largest European model yet. It will sit at the top of its 'EV' range above the EV6, which launched in 2021.

Like the EV6, the flagship EV9 will sit on Kia's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which has been used on other cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Genesis GV60. It was previously captured undergoing hot- and cold-weather testing on European roads under heavy camoflauge.

Previewed as a concept earlier last year at Autombolity LA, Kia confirmed it would be targeting buyers of premium SUVs but the brand makes clear it doesn’t expect to sell the EV9 in great numbers, due to its size.

Here’s another look at the fully-electric Kia EV9 SUV, due in 2023

Kia’s big range-topping EV9 SUV is nearly here

Kia has revealed its intention to fully reveal a new car later this month. Consider this your official notice of notice, then.

It shall be called the Kia EV9; nomenclature that denotes exactly where said car fits in the ever-expanding Kia hierarchy. Right at the top, with a big fat electric bow on it and everything.

Because it’s a big, fat electric car which will likely come with everything, at least judging by the teaser silhouette released today. Kia calls it a “sleek and sculptural design” with “confident and assertive geometry”. It’s certainly confident.

We only know at this early stage that like the EV6 – that TG award-winning electric car – the EV9 will be spun up from Kia’s dedicated battery-electric chassis dubbed ‘Electric Global Modular Platform’. Or E-GMP.

Kia EV9 flagship SUV previewed: large, luxurious and electric

Kia is getting ready to pull the covers off the production version of its EV9, and from what we can see in these newly released teaser images, it remains faithful to the identically named concept of 2021.

The Kia EV9 will become the brand’s new flagship SUV when it makes its global debut at the end of March, and we’ll have to wait until then to hear all the specifics.

We do know that the vehicle will be built around the Hyundai Group’s E-GMP modular platform for battery vehicles, and this will be the second Kia vehicle to utilise this architecture, after the SA-bound EV6 sports crossover. It’s not yet known whether the EV9 will be offered locally.

Production Kia EV9 video teaser - full reveal March 15

here is no question that the Kia EV9 is a very significant electric car for the entire Hyundai group. It will be the largest electric SUV from the brand, it will preview the electric Hyundai Ioniq 7 and it will compete in the US with the likes of Chevrolet Equinox or maybe even Chevrolet Blazer or Cadillac Lyriq.

Thanks to the ever so flexible E-GMP platform from Hyundai, Kia managed to bring us the EV6 which took the world by storm. Hyundai used it on Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 and Genesis GV60 is possibly the nicest looking EV based on that platform. Now, Kia is getting ready to launch its first electric SUV and here is the first official teaser:

We gotta give it to Kia - the engineers did not stray too far away from the original design of the prototype. The vertical headlights are complemented by an array of pixels fading into the center of the grille and as we can see, will be able to display various patterns and light signatures.

The rear lights are just as unique as the front and create an unmistakable light signature. As the camera swings to the side of the EV9, we notice the flush mounted door handles. The unashamedly boxy body is true to the prototype which is a huge surprise. The entire car swoops gently towards the rear creating a very enticing and attractive silhouette.

New Kia EV9 is seven-seat electric SUV with 337-mile range

Optional swivelling seats for Kia’s largest and most advanced electric car yet

The new Kia EV9 is the second of the firm’s fast-expanding family of bespoke electric cars, combining compelling performance specs with upmarket design and equipment to enter into direct competition with new SUVs from the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Arriving to join the segment-bending Kia EV6 crossover in dealerships from last 2023, the EV9 heralds the beginning of a bold new design era for Kia as it progresses with its ambitious ‘Plan S’ strategy to launch another 13 bespoke EVs by 2027.

Its role is especially important in this regard, according to Kia’s chief brand officer Artur Martens, who said the EV9 “will help us keep reshaping the image consumers have of our brand” - an initiative supported by wide-reaching dealer reform measures and expansion into new segments.

The three-row EV will be the most expensive Kia model yet, as well as one of its largest - being roughly the same size as the US-market Telluride SUV. Full pricing details will come closer to a launch in the third quarter of 2023, but a top-end list price in the mid-£80,000s is feasible, while entry-level variants will likely be priced closer to the £60,000 mark.

Kia EV9

Kia Corporation has revealed full images of the exterior and interior design of the Kia EV9, its first three-row electric flagship SUV, which encapsulates bold styling and sophisticated elegance inside and out. The Kia EV9 represents a pivotal step forward in the company's journey towards becoming a sustainable mobility solutions provider.

The bold and confident visual presence of the EV9 is inspired by Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, which harnesses the creative tension generated by the divergent values of nature and modernity to deliver a harmonious whole. Kia's designers have fused a unique combination of sleek, sculptural shapes and assured, assertive geometry to deliver a strikingly contemporary yet gracefully serene SUV.

"The Kia EV9 breaks new ground, aiming to redefine standards for design, connectivity, usability and environmental responsibility," said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center. "The Kia EV9 offers customers an exceptionally high-quality proposition and a fresh EV perspective in the family SUV sector. This new vehicle typology provides instinctive experiences and excellent comfort for not just the driver, but all occupants, through innovative use of space, technology and design."
