2023 Kia EV9

This is the new, three-row fully electric Kia EV9 SUV

Kia’s first-ever three-row EV is also its boldest visual statement yet

Proof of South Korea’s remarkable motoring ambition can come in no more obvious – nor enormous – an example as what we have here. Kia has revealed the first images of its upcoming flagship electric SUV it’s calling the EV9, and it’s not a car, but a statement.

It’s the company’s first ever three-row SUV, designed to offer “a fresh EV perspective in the family SUV sector”, at least according to Kia design boss Karim Habib. A fresh, very big perspective, if that much wasn’t already obvious.

What's not obvious is exactly how big, because Kia still has some ‘reveal’ left of this EV9 (check back towards the end of March) so today’s announcement is an introduction to its silhouette. Kia describes that bold new shape as ‘assured’, ‘assertive’ and ‘striking’; like using the design forms of Dire Straits’ Money For Nothing video. Or even more succinctly: POLYGONS.

The blocky, polygonal form apparently lends itself to “exceptional aerodynamic efficiency”, according to Kia, complete with pronounced wheel arches and lots of clean, straight “fuselage’-style lines.

New Kia EV9 7-Seater Electric SUV Fully Revealed

Meet the production version of the new Kia EV9, the South Korean firm’s box-fresh 7-seater electric flagship SUV…

The Kia EV9 has finally been fully revealed in production form, arriving as the South Korean brand’s new 7-seater electric flagship SUV. And, yes, it looks hardly any different to the concept version unveiled back in late-2021.

Kia describes the new EV9 as a “pivotal step forward” in the automaker’s journey towards becoming a “sustainable mobility solutions provider”, adding the vehicle “paves new paths for future electric SUV design”.

“The Kia EV9 breaks new ground, aiming to redefine standards for design, connectivity, usability and environmental responsibility,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center. “The Kia EV9 offers customers an exceptionally high-quality proposition and a fresh EV perspective in the family SUV sector. This new vehicle typology provides instinctive experiences and excellent comfort for not just the driver, but all occupants, through innovative use of space, technology and design.”

Unfortunately, the automaker has yet to release any official details on the EV9’s electric powertrain (so, battery capacity, power output and range claims are all unconfirmed), while dimensions have also not yet been announced. For the record, though, the concept version measured 4 928 mm long, 2 057mm wide and 1 778 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3 099 mm.

Kia EV9 flagship crossover debuts with concept car looks

Billed as a pivotal step on the Korean carmaker’s electrification journey, the new Kia EV9 flagship has been revealed to the world and its design remains faithful to the concept car that previewed it.

While Kia has presented the exterior and interior design in its final form, the company is not parting with any technical details just yet, but that will apparently happen in late March.

What we do know is that the Kia EV9 will be underpinned by the E-GMP architecture that was developed exclusively for electric cars. It’s also more than likely that it will have the same 800-volt electrical architecture as the EV6, which allows for ultra-fast charging.

The three-row SUV is set to rival the upcoming Volvo EX90 and will likely be offered in both single-motor and twin-motor all-wheel drive formats, although it remains to be seen whether a 430kW performance model matching the EV6 GT will be offered.

New Kia EV9 comes with 7 seats and over 540 km of range

Here it is - brand new 7-seat electric SUV from Kia that has absolutely everything it needs to compete with the likes of Mercedes EQE SUV or Audi Q8 e-tron. It has the space, it has the tech and performance, but it still faces the same question - is that enough to look past the badge?

The new Kia EV9 aims to be the largest Kia SUV, yes - the Telluride model is quite popular in the US, but in Europe the largest Kia we have nowadays is the EV6. The EV9 is a welcome return of the large and highly capable 4x4 from the Korean automaker and what’s even better is that it’s all electric.

The most important bits first - Kia claims that the EV9 will be able to travel up to 337 miles (542 km) on a full charge. The largest battery available will have around 100 kWh capacity although the company did not disclose any details yet. The flexible 400V and 800V architecture supports fast charging of up to 350 kW and can add 100 km of range in 6 minutes.

There will be RWD and AWD versions available, and initially the top of the range will be the GT-Line S trim which deals with the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in just 5 seconds. This being a 20 cm longer vehicle than the Kia EV6 it shares its components with, suggests the GT-Line S version has around 400 hp output. For those who find that insufficient, the GT version will be an answer with at least 576 hp provided by the drivetrain we know from the Kia EV6.

New 2023 Kia EV9 gets 336-mile range, 5.3sec 0-62mph time

Optional Boost mode for Kia's new flagship, which gets 100kWh battery and choice of rear- or four-wheel drive

Just a week after the shock unveiling of the new Kia EV5 electric SUV, Kia has confirmed technical specifications of the larger EV9 flagship ahead of its launch later this year.

Measuring 5010mm long and with a wheelbase of 3100mm (longer than the US-market Kia Telluride), the EV9 will come as standard in the UK with a 99.8kWh, 800V battery netting a range of up to 336 miles between charges and capable of gaining 148 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

There will be a rear-wheel-drive car with 200bhp and 258lb ft of torque that gets from 0-62mph in 9.4sec; and a dual-motor version bumping that up to 378bhp and 442lb ft, trading some range for a rapid 6.0sec 0-62mph time.

A downloadable Boost function, available to install after purchase, will increase torque to 516lb ft and cut the sprint by 0.7sec.

An entry-level car with a 76.1kWh battery will be offered in other markets, but the promised GT performance variant, which is anticipated to surpass the hottest EV6 to become Kia's most potent model yet, is due to come to the UK at a later date.

For now, the range-topping variant is the ‘assertive’ EV9 GT-Line, marked out by its bespoke bumpers, wheels and roof rails - together with the dynamic LED patterns in the front ‘grille’ panel previewed by the EV9 concept in 2021.

The Kia EV9 will do over 330 miles on a single charge

Korean brand expects big things from this massive vehicle but still no pricing

Kia has revealed more information about the forthcoming EV9. There’s a lot riding on this mammoth-sized car, which can sit three rows of adult humans comfortably.

Though (somewhat disappointingly) little information has been shared on its off-roading functionality, aside from a brief mention about its Auto Terrain Mode, the EV9 is set to get some pretty future-facing features.

The boxy beast — due at the end of 2023 — will feature a 99.8kWh battery, capable in the long range spec, of up to 336 miles (541km). Using the same 800V technology that graces the TG award-winning Kia EV6 and Porsche Taycan, the EV9 will charge 148 miles in 15 minutes. Of course, that’s providing the ultra-rapid chargers are delivering maximum output (but that’s another story).

Kia tells us that the remote upgrades, enabling the brand to add new features, will give the EV9 a competitive advantage, as will the intentions to treat the EV9 like a giant power bank.

2024 Kia EV9 comes with large battery and 330 miles of range

Yes, we hear you - Kia EV9 was unveiled last week. Well, technically, it was just a design unveiling because Kia, like so many other automakers these days, likes to have pre-unveiling, followed by the unveiling, which in turn is followed by yet another unveiling often called World Premiere. So here it is - the World Premiere of Kia EV9.

The 2024 Kia EV9 deserves all the publicity it can get, it is one of the closest production cars to its prototype ever released. Yes, the futuristic interior has been toned down and the rear-hinged doors are replaced with the humdrum everyday doors that open in the usual way, but just look at this car. And then consider that this is Kia.

The world premiere gave us a little bit more insight into the design process and ideas behind the car but the most important bits have finally been confirmed - powertrains and battery options. And this news is huge - literally. Kia is introducing the biggest battery the E-GMP platform has seen so far. The 99.8 kWh battery pack means the EV9 can deliver a decent driving range.

Buy now, pay for more performance later with the new Kia EV9, revealed in Korea

Subscription services and paying for updates are all part of the future motoring landscape whether you like it or not.

But is it fair to ask a customer to pay extra for something when the hardware is already installed in the car they’ve bought? BMW, for instance, has ruffled a few feathers by offering a subscription service in some markets for heated seats.

Performance updates that you can purchase later through software updates is another thing the motoring world will soon get used to. Tesla already does it and now Kia is offering something similar with its new EV9 flagship electric SUV.

After revealing the vehicle’s concept car-inspired exterior and interior designs earlier this month, Kia has now spilled the beans on all the technical details, including performance and range.

At the top of the pile is a twin-motor, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model that offers outputs of 283kW and 600Nm, allowing for a six-second 0-100km/h sprint. But purchase the optional ‘Boost’ feature from the Kia Connect Store, at an as-yet-unspecified price, and an extra 100Nm of torque is unlocked, allowing you to accelerate to 100 in 5.3 seconds.

Kia EV9 GT with 400+ hp is coming in 2025

Kia's EV9 is a striking SUV for sure, and it was recently officially introduced - not once, but twice, because this is the state of the car world currently. The top of the line model delivers 380 hp from dual motors, and this one can do 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.3 seconds with Boost function.

That's absolutely nothing to scoff at considering this is a huge SUV we're talking about, but Kia isn't resting on its laurels. Instead, it's working on an EV9 GT, which would be the highest-power version.

It will undoubtedly have more than 400 hp, probably much more, in fact. The only GT electric Kia so far is the EV6 GT, and that has 576 hp and can do 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds.
