2023 Kia EV9

Kia EV9 Nightfall Edition is more than just a midnight makeover

Kia is turning up the style, and the speed with its new EV9 Nightfall Edition unveiled at the New York Auto Show alongside the EV4. This special version of the popular electric SUV isn't just about looks; it offers better performance too.

The Nightfall Edition takes the already sleek EV9 Land model and adds a touch of darkness and sportiness. Gloss-black accents now adorn the front grille, skid plates, side mirrors, roof rails, and mirror caps, giving the vehicle a more assertive stance. Unique 20-inch alloy wheels further contribute to its distinctive appearance. Kia even offers a special paint color called Roadrider Brown, although initial images showcase the vehicle in a striking Glacial Pearl White.

Inside, the Nightfall Edition moves away from the standard model's gray and black interior, and goes for a full black color scheme. This includes the headliner and the seats, which now feature a more dynamic, performance-inspired stitching pattern. These changes create a sophisticated and sporty atmosphere for passengers.

Yikes! The 502bhp Kia EV9 GT will cost £82,185

Pray silence please, the age of the £80k+ Kia is now upon us

Kia has announced pricing for the new EV9 GT here in the UK, and the headline is that it’s chuffing expensive. Prices start at £82,185 for the seven-seat version, and £83,185 for the posher six-seater.

Of course, you get a whole lot of car for the money. The standard EV9 is already a monstrous thing, and the GT ups the ante even further by pairing those ginormous dimensions with a twin-motor electric powertrain producing 502bhp and 546lb ft of torque.

That may be slightly less than the 641bhp of the newly updated EV6 GT, but it’s still enough to fling the big flagship SUV from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is 136mph.

The GT shares its whopping 99.8kWh battery with the rest of the EV9 range, although the distances you’ll be able to cover will suffer as a result of all that power, so you’re looking at 280 miles of WLTP range on a single charge.

Kia delays the EV9 GT in the US as well

At the end of October, Kia revealed the fact that the EV4 sedan meant for the US market was indefinitely delayed. If after reading that you expected this to spread to other models, you were unfortunately right.

Now it's transpired that the 2026 Kia EV9 GT is delayed indefinitely as well for the US market. Once again, the company's wording is similar - "delayed until further notice", and the reason has to do with "changing market conditions".

The EV9 GT was supposed to go on sale in the US in the second half of this year, but that hasn't happened so far and now it definitely won't until the end of December for sure.

While Kia is sticking to using the word "delayed" for both the EV4 sedan and the EV9 GT, we wouldn't be surprised if this was chosen over "cancelled" simply because it doesn't sound as bad, but in the end the meaning is the same.
