2024 Kia EV9 Electric Three-Row SUV Promises 300 Miles of Battery Range in the U.S.

The production-spec EV9 debuts today at the New York International Auto Show, with the future promise of full Level 3 autonomy.

Kia officially rolled out its three-row 2024 Kia EV9 at the 2023 New York Auto Show on Wednesday, and we learned a little more about this big beast of an electric SUV.

Some details about the EV9 were fairly well hammered out before the announcement, and even after this debut we still have plenty of unanswered questions. We do have range confirmed for at least one of the EV9's drivetrain options. Previously, Kia said its rear-wheel drive EV9 with the larger, 99.8-kWh battery could achieved 336 miles of range in European testing. For the U.S. however, the automaker estimates the single-motor EV9 with the larger battery pack will do 300 miles on a charge. Ranges for the 379-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel drive EV9, or models with the smaller 215-hp single motor and 76.1-kWh battery pack, have not yet been announced.

Kia EV9 introduced in the US, will be manufactured locally from 2024

Kia introduced the EV9 in mid-March, and then once again with more details towards the end of last month. But those were global launches. Today, the company has unveiled the EV9 for the US market.

The EV is currently "targeted to go on sale" in the US in the fourth quarter of the year, so October to December. Starting in 2024, it's "expected" to be assembled in the US, namely in West Point, Georgia. Once that happens, it will be the first Kia EV to be assembled locally in the US.

Unfortunately we'll have to wait for yet another announcement regarding pricing and exact timing for US market availability, as well as specific trim details and EPA ratings, as none of these were provided with today's "launch".

What we can tell you is that the EV9 will be made available in the US with both the standard 76.1 kWh battery paired with a 160 kW (215 hp) motor that drives the rear wheels, and the 99.8 kWh battery paired with either a single motor with a target of 300 miles (482 km) of EPA rated range, or a dual-motor, 283 kW (379 hp) torque vectoring AWD configuration with 516 lb-ft of torque and 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) targeted for 5 seconds.

Kia's new flagship will launch with 336-mile range, 5.3sec 0-62mph time and optional Boost mode – but there's more to come

A hot EV9 GT variant of Kia's new flagship SUV is "just around the corner", with the firm claiming it will highlight how performance is to be a key focus of its future line-up.

The large SUV will launch later this year with the choice of a rear-wheel-drive powertrain with 200bhp and 258lb ft that takes it from 0-62mph in 9.4sec and a dual-motor version offering 378bhp and 442lb ft, along with a rapid 6.0sec 0-62mph time.

While an "assertive" GT-Line trim, marked out by bespoke bumpers, wheels and roof rails, along with dynamic LED patterns in the front ‘grille’ panel, will be part of the launch range, the full GT version will arrive later. Full details have yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to surpass the Kia EV6 GT in power output, and will receive a wide range of chassis changes.

Kia EV9 deliveries started, new electric city car and crossover are coming

Kia revealed its long-awaited 7-seat electric SUV on March 15. The largest electric SUV from the Hyundai Group (until Ioniq 7 arrives) has taken the world by storm, the EV9 turned out to be very close to the concept car Kia unveiled last year, and customers love it. Three months after the official unveiling, the first units of the EV9 will be delivered to Korean customers today.

In Korea, Kia EV9 is offered in two trims - Air and Earth, and there are two drivetrain options - AWD or RWD. The Air version is the entry-level trim with a highway driving assist system as standard, the acoustic double-laminated glass comes standard as well. The Earth version adds reclining seats for the front row, a 12-inch HUD, and dual-color ambient lighting in the cabin.

The Kia EV9 comes with the largest battery so far - it has a capacity of 99.8 kWh, although other markets will have the optional 76.1 kWh pack. The large battery translates to a 541 km WLTP rating for the LR version with a single 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor. While the world will have to wait for the GT version until 2025, Korean customers will see it first as early as the third quarter of this year.

Kia is on the roll, with the EV6 winning the approval from owners all over the world, and now scores of drivers lining up to purchase the EV9, the company is banking on this momentum. Kia will have 15 electric models on offer by the end of 2027 and will cover every major vehicle segment, according to David Hilbert, Kia’s chief of marketing for Europe.

The first-ever Kia to be sold on European soil was the tiny Kia Pride. It went on sale in the UK back in 1991 for a measly €8,400 and it was the start of an amazing automotive adventure. For decades Kia provided reliable motoring for many families - no frills, dependable and affordable was Kia’s second nature. Over the years though, the company tried really hard to shake off the affordable bit as if it was something to be ashamed of.

With the advent of electric cars, the company was given a perfect opportunity to reinvent itself as a manufacturer of premium vehicles. The EV6 was a real surprise to everyone, we knew that Kia could make fast and fun-to-drive cars after it released the Stinger, but the EV6 is in a league of its own. The GT version is a true supercar slayer for no-supercar money, but at €74,000 it already was a tough cookie to swallow.

Kia isn’t put off by its own transition to the premium vehicle market and is happily embracing its new image. The company only recently unveiled its biggest SUV ever, the 7-seat EV9, and the car just blew the public away. It is by far one of the most futuristic-looking SUVs on the market with a clever interior, and with performance to match its looks. And now we know all that comes at a price.

Samsung Freestyle EV9 Edition projector launched with Kia EV9-matching design

Samsung just launched a portable projector called Freestyle EV9 Edition as it has matching looks of the recently launched Kia EV9 in South Korea. However, contrary to the projector, the vehicle is available outside of South Korea and Kia is now accepting orders. It starts at a hefty €74,000, so it's Kia's entry in the premium segment.

Back to the Freestyle projector, it has the same lighting grille as the EV9 and features the signature Ocean Matte Blue color. In a way, the Freestyle EV projector is meant to be a complementary product to the Kia EV9 instead of a standalone one.

The projector can be charged inside Kia's new crossover and can be carried around easily thanks to its portable design. It can be set up pretty much everywhere and it works in every orientation. The maximum size of the projected image can go up to 100".

The Freestyle projector ships with a box made of sustainable materials, including recycled and kraft paper and soybean oil ink.
