Hi Guys

I am very indecisive, I am looking for a new car. So far it looks like the 208 GTI looks like a great car, fast, comfortable, modern interior and looks very pretty indeed. Not a fan of the Fiesta ST's interior at all, brother has the Clio RS ... Polo.. well there are plenty of them on the road, plus the interior again, while premium, seems dated to me.

what do you think or recommend? Any other cars I should be considering?

I would recommend the Fiesta ST. That car is brilliant, and not French! But it is your choice in the end.

208 GTI is a good car, and it is not bland and boring. I'd say got for it.

Remember the Polo GTI interior is supossed to look "dated". Keeping to the original GTI theme.
Fiesta ST is too feminine for my liking. I think ignore everybody who goes on about "French being rubbish".
The puegot is too slow for my liking.

How much are you looking to spend?

Around R300k or so, can't really go more with insurance and that included

Know of 3 family members with Renaults, other than higher repair costs. They all enjoyed their cars. Would you say that Peugot is worse than Renault in reliability?

I've had my 208 HDI since new to over 10000km so far, no issues. Love the little car.

Peugeot have improved a lot. The new 208 is a great little car - very well made.

EDIT: I'd say Peugeot is better because of the maintenance plan they offer. As standard. Just make sure to extend it to 100000km - doesn't cost much.

208 GTi is quite quick IMO. 0-100 in 6.7s.. same 147kw. Problem I have is I;m not sure if it will be reliable over 5 years or so

No one can tell you that for absolute certain. All French cars are said to be unreliable in SA, chiefly because of part availability and price.

I remember Peugeot's brochure emphasizing the new parts warehouse that they had, because of that. As well as offering a maintenance plan as standard, even on the cheapest 208. Kinda unheard of in the industry. They want to gain market share.

As I said, I haven't had any issues with my car so far.

Now that I think about it, If I were to pick a small hot hatch right now, I wouldn't pick any. Nothing appeals to me. Buying a "performance" hatch and planning to keep it longer than 5 years isn't the best idea. Unless you maintain it really well.

Which one do you have? Active or Allure? It only costs R6000 to extend the maintanance plan to 100000km.

Wow that's not bad

For what you pay and get the Peugoet is the best value. Considering it now has a standard maintanance plan and you don't have to worry about the cost of repairs.

Another thing is Peugoet assist. If your car breaks down and they don't have the part within 24 hours you get a courtesy car. If you break down in Colesburg they put you in a hotel. They'll even send someone to change your tyre.

If the insurance of a 208 GTI is anywhere close to the insurance of my Giulietta QV - you're in for a huge shock. You might need to adjust your budget then.

Cars in the hot hatch/super-minis/coupe segment are:

> Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV; 173 kW
> Alfa Romeo MiTo QV; 138 kW
> Audi S3; 221 kW
> Audi RS3; 269 kW
> BMW 125i; 160 kW
> BMW 135i; 235 kW
> Ford Fiesta ST; 134 kW
> Ford Focus ST; 184 kW
> Kia Koup; 147 kW
> Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG; 265 kW
> Opel Astra OPC; 206 kW
> Opel Corsa OPC; 141 kW
> Peugeot 208 GTI; 146 kW
> Renault Clio RS; 147 kW
> Renault Megane GT-Turbo, 162 kW
> Renault Megane RS; 184 kW - 202 kW [Package dependant]
> Subaru WRX; 197 kW
> Subaru WRX STI; 221 kW
> Toyota 86 (Subaru BRZ); 147 kW (NA)
> Volkswagen Polo GTI; 130 kW
> Volkswagen Golf GTI; 162 kW
> Volkswagen Golf R; 221 kW
> Volkswagen Scirocco; 155 kW
> Volkswagen Scirocco R; 188 kW

I'm sure there are a few I've missed out, but those are the ones I can think off from the top of my head. I too was limited to around R300k for my budget. So if I could go back and choose any car in that price range, I'd probably go for the Fiesta ST or the Polo GTI. Not because I don't like my GQV, man I love that car, but because the insurance is ****ing insane.
