The DSG Polo GTI is cool but then I would be getting the car for its gearbox, is that really a sufficient reason to buy one? I would prefer an automatic because I drive in traffic a lot but it isn't an essential feature, thats why i am considering the 208 GTI. Think I will be looking at a Demo model or a less than 5000kms to take advantage of the poor resale value

I definitely will get an insurance quote before I buy any car, but I am turning 25 in a week or so, have never been in an accident (touch wood). So am expecting it to be reasonable for a hot hatch
So you're the same boat as me, 25 and you want a hot hatch and no accidents plus you want a car that isn't common. Yeah. Try Santam with household insurance for best premiums otherwise Santam won't insure you. That's what they did with me at least.

A guy reversed into me a month before I bought my ST. Really hit my premiums. This was the best offer I could get. I need to review it for this year

i have the Peugeot 308 GTI, so the same engine as the 208 GTI. the comfort levels are amazing. the standard equipment you get in the car is well above the equipment you will be in the OPC, Polo or ST. insurance, i'm paying R1.4K with a excess of R3K at momentum with an accident that happened 1.5 years ago

...and a little tub of Vaseline to keep in the cubby hole for that first time you need a part they don't have in stock?

MY post cam eout all cr@ppy. It's a comparison of what is std in the 308 vd the Fiesta ST . British_twit wrote:

This proves he is wrong

Maybe if you are comparing GTI to GTI or ST, but most 208's come standard with both bluetooth and cruise control, neither of which is standard on most other cars in the class. In fact, it is impossible to get Cruise Control on anything but the Fiesta ST and maybe the Titanium.

Statements that are wrong in the above post from drifter:
it does have fog lights front and kind of in the back (lights up more of the brake light), it does have Electric windows with one touch, does have hands free Phone using the bluetooth sound system, High Level brake light(which is in the spoiler) and cup holders (lol).
Fiesta ST vs 308 GTI - Peugeot has full Panoramic roof, PDC front and back, security system, alarm
Polo GTI vs 308 GTI - Auto Headlamps, Fog lights, Panoramic roof, auto windscreen wipers, PDC front and back, 2 more airbags (Curtain)
Corsa OPC vs 308 GTI - Auto Air Con, Climate Control, Auto Headlamps, fog lights, Panoramic roof, auto windscreen wipers, no way to connect phone to sound system, PDC front and Back, impact tensioning seatbelts

so i think i have proved my point...

Thanks for the advice and sharing of past experience. The resale value is a worry, this weekend I am going to have a look at the ST, 208 GTI and the Polo GTI. See which one talks to me the most if that makes sense.
