Please recommend a VERY comfortable SUV or sedan. A very small family of mother and child. Every school holidays we do long distance road travel and the roads get bad on some routes. I've seen that CX5 is suggested a lot here, but I've driven it before for some time and the seat was just too painful for me and the headrest for some reason was pushing my head forward and killing my neck, basically not a good fit for me (I'm small in frame so that might be why). And I find SUV's in general to feel jarring on humps and bumps than sedans, which I really don't like.

I'm currently driving a low budget sedan, and I'm finding myself more inclined to a sedan for a comfortable drive, especially because I have some back problems. BUT, the traveling we do would require more of an SUV because of the bad road. A car that I will keep for a very long time, I'm not a fan of changing cars. Good on fuel will be great.

Budget ~600k new or used(low mileage).

So far in mind I have pre-owned Lexus NX , Kia Sportage, I hear boot can be comfortable ride. Haven't done test driving. I hear BMW SUVs are also very comfy.

I'm not much of a car person so I need a nudge in the right direction where to start. This is also something nice I've done for myself in a long time so I'm looking for a car I'll really enjoy, which for me means a very comfortable ride (and being able to overtake decently)

Looking to do some test driving during school holidays

Buy a Volvo. You can get them in diesel on the used market if you're not ready to go hybrid/electric. Most comfortable seats this side of a Maybach or Rolls Royce (not that I know what those seats feel like). At the end of the day YMMV, and you would have to do the homework, more or less, yourself.

Overtaking Decently means you should only be looking at Turbo-Charged cars so a CX5 is already out.

Haval/Chery or any other chinese also out because you want to keep long term and want great fuel consumption.

Get a diesel Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson.

Volvo is leaving SA.

I did think of a Volvo, however I read somewhere that they closed or planning to close a big percentage of their dealerships in SA. That got me worried about aftersales support and spares availability.

Are turbocharged engines good for long term?

Remember Right to Repair, you can use 3rd party RMS-approved shops to repair and address issues. There are a few good ones if you live in Cape Town.

Isuzu MUX Also a great choice if you are looking for something more Robust and can handle bad roads really well.

I'm all the way in KZN. Thanks, I'll add it to my list of vehicles to test drive
