21 Days

Who doesn't? :D

Diabetics and people with wheat allergies? :p

I have to cut down on my bread intake (something I eat every single day) and my sugar intake (far easier but still difficult if you consider how many different kinds of sugars there are and in how many kinds of food they're found).

I was feeling down, then I read things like this. Btw Picard, why do u teach?

Because I want to. And I good at it to a fair degree.

I'm no public orator, but in class (in front of a limited amount of people) I'm a modern Demosthenes ... or so I think ... or rather hope.

yoh all at once ? I would say break the big job into many smaller jobs

Are you trying to drop all those at once? Setting yourself up for failure then perhaps. Rather target one or two at a time. IF two are related like smoking while drinking or sugar and wheat then try do two at once but otherwise I would recommend a more gradual approach to tackling the whole lot. Also definitely start with smoking (cannabis and tobacco). Easily the worst two poisons on that list.

I am, this is just the beginning of many changes. :D

It's easy enough, I'll feel a bit crap for a week or two, then I'll feel better.

I find it easier to do this sort of thing in bulk. Certainly though, alcohol is the major culprit there - Without that, it's going to be as easy as pie pretty much!

Thats the bugger, alcohol consumption usually leads to dumb, regrettable decisions.
I am doing my best to replace these things with exercise (hiking, sports etc) and music. Exercise is great, because trying to run or play sport after a night out is punishing (especially now that I am getting on in age).

I also try get a training / activity partner, this way, you feel like you cant let someone else down.

Personally, I cant give up everything in one go (unless its alcohol and narcotics). For bad eating habits, i try kill one major thing every few weeks. I started with sodas (especially coca-cola), and now have cut my sugar consumption in tea from 4 spoons a cup to 2.

I guess its also just a mindset, i have managed to stay clear of the things i want to pretty well. But i lapse every now and again...I wake up, regret it, swear at myself and start again. the positive thing is the lapses are taking longer and longer to happen, and i am measuring myself on that

Hahaha I stopped drinking and doing other stuff, but I wont stop smoking. If you stop all of those at one go then +1 respect

Clearly, this is false. Either you've done this before, in bulk, and were unsuccessful (which is why you're doing it again) or you've never done this before in which case you can't have found it easier to do.
I too think trying to give up everything at once is setting yourself up for failure. I would target one or two at a time as Cius suggested, starting with alcohol, the major culprit here.

What I mean is that I generally operate in all or nothing mode - Which is not ideal I agree, it's just how my brain works. I'm not sure that doing it bit by bit is going to influence long term results. Why would it?

He did this in January as well and it lasted months.

Yes, this time I managed 2 Days. :D

Epic fail, aah well.

Clocks reset.

This thread is just an attempt at some sort of motivation, at the very least it will be interesting to publicly track my idiocy. :D

Hahaha, any attempt is better than none lol - and every little bit helps :D

Apparently 21 days is enough time to change your behaviour.

I hope so.

Here goes:

Alcohol 0
Cannabis 2
Nicotine 0
Sugar 0
Wheat 2

:o

*edit*

Epic fail FFS. :D

Why do you want to quit all these things?

Nothing wrong with sugar in moderation. Nor with wheat (or is it an allergy?). Alcohol in moderation is a good thing as far as studies can tell thus far.
