Uhm, okay...

I just placed the Cell C sim card in my Nokia E71 and got the best speeds thus far! The E1820 sucks!

Anyways.. to Jhb

Nokia E71 with Vodacom : 3.18 Mbps down, 0.36 Mbps up, 82ms latency
Nokia E71 with Cell C: 1.2 Mbps down, 0.35 Mbps up, 75ms latency

E1820 with Cell C (Not getting 3G signal at all): 0.21Mbps down, 0.09 up, 392ms latency.

Such a poor poor signal here :(

Okay Okay! After struggling for 2 weeks to get Cell C to work I'm in the process of cancelling my contract without paying any penalty fees because Cell C never provided the service and confirmed there are no coverage in my area..

Anyways, so I decided I'll use my Vodacom Simcard (which I used in my phone to get 3.18 Mbps down, 0.36 Mbps up, 82ms latency) and use it in the E1820 dongle :P And I'm impressed! Vodacom basically gave me 8.05 Mbps down, 1.51 Mbps up, 45ms latency.. Tests done to Jhb server.

Anyways.. proves to me Vodacom much better.. and since I've been with them for more than 6 months without any connection failures or dropped connections or something.. I'll much rather pay more and get a stable fast connection.

Currently priced at: MyGig 2.3 R 389.00 and get the Night Owl also with 2.3GB I'll rather pay that. I'll just have to schedule all the big downloads between 12 and 5pm when I sleep.. doesnt matter!

Awesome Vodacom! You are just WAY better than Cell C!!

LOL! But now I have a problem.. I want to get a router or dongle that could also handle the 21Mbps speed. Either I'll have to buy the E1820 or get a different one. Any recomendations on where to buy?

I like your post. The way i understand it , as long as it is not the B970 Router that needs the sim any other router that can support the modem should work.

Haha Thanks. My experience with Vodacom is great thus far. I didn't even expect the speeds to go above 7.2Mbps and yet it does with the E1820.

Anyways the Cell C contract is canceled now and they even gave me the connection fee for the SIM Card back.. Apparently I can buy the Cell C E1820 dongle in the store for about +-R1000. Anyone know a better place to buy for cheaper?

hmmmmm interesting.....

/ on my way to start a Vodacom fan-club on MyBB....

* wonder's how many member's will join *

How can you say that Vodacom is better when you didn't have coverage in the first place with Cell C?

If you go and read my experience of Cell C in the coverage queries thread at http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/295253-Coverage-Queries you will know why I'm pissed of at Cell C service. My contract is now officially cancelled at no cost to me and funny enough, the coverage map on the Cell C webpage now shows one big white gap where it usually was red (after I threatened with legal actions and stuff). SOOOOO I was right all the time that Cell C advertised a service that there was nothing of in my area (they tested it).

Btw, I tested the Cell C thing in Brooklyn Pta and got Max 6Mbps whereas with Vodacom they don't even advertise high speeds yet but I get 8Mbps download with 97% signal strength.

Think Vodacom would have accommodated your with the above? Doubtful.

Nonetheless, glad you happy with your move to vodacom - in the end coverage is going to be first priority.

24 Months with vodacom - cell c better not undercut the big boys even further.

When you sign a contract with any company that says it will provide a service and they eventually don't, they are breaking the contract and thus the contract is void. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise, contracts goes both ways. Its just a fact that Cell C is advertising a service it can't always provide while Vodacom is providing a service it isn't even advertising.

I'm using once-of-data bundles with 2.3GB + 2.3GB night owl = 4.6GB Total @ R389. Not that bad considering no contracts and I can switch to cheaper options as soon as they are available.

Guess you missed the part with "after I threatened with legal actions and stuff"
