I am thinking of replacing my 19inch CRT with a 22" wide LCD. However I have heard a couple of people moan / pass comments about playing games on 22" monitors....What is the difference other than a larger viewable area??

No complaints from me
You have a larger viewable area, a wider aspect-ratio so if the game supports widescreen you actually see more on your screen than usual, instead of just everything being stretched (though you can stop that from happening as well).
Some older games (like BF2) don't support the native res (1680x1050) of 22" wide screens so the game is stretched to fit. There are programs to help with this tho.
I bought myself a 22" a couple of weeks ago and I'm more than happy. COD4 runs nicely, Assasins Creed looks great, all in all I'm happy.
Should be an interesting day today tho. Going to install good old Diablo1 and Diablo2. Don't know if Diablo1 will work on a widescreen.![]()

I played crysis,COD4 and nfs pro street on my friends rig the otherday.he has the samsung 2232GW 22" lcd and the games just looked awesome on that screen. didn't try any older games though.
Does anyone know how to play DotA (Warcraft III) on a resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9) ?
do I need a utility/tool, or is this simply not possible?
What does it look like on other resolutions? Any good? I play DOTA alot so if its not going to work nicely on a 22" then im screwed![]()
I installed Warcraft3 two days ago (going through old games FTW) and it works. It runs at 1280X1024, centres it in the middle of the 22".
I'll give that proggy that alan linked to a try and let you know if it helps.

i have had my 2232GW for several months now and its fantastic. Im using an 8600 (until my hd4850 arrives which shuold be any day now) and nVidia actually has a feature in its program (forgot what its called) which automatically changes your aspect ratio for games which do not support wide screen. Therefore, you will end up with a full screen game, however there will be 2 black patches on the sides of your game (basically centering as the previous post said). In my opion this is better than playing in Windowed mode as you dont have your desktop background distracting you...
just my 2c![]()
