2 features you missed - the speakers; and the monitor does in fact tilt.

Got the 2232GW at work and the 2494 at home.

Yup it does tilt actually, phew i was hoping i would not snap anything now haha but yea it tilts :p

Speakers are not something i would care about on a monitor so i would not look for them.

I'll have to take some pics - I'll post them from home tonight.

I doubt pics will help his decision hey, he can get those off the samsung website.

The basic question is whether its worth the extra money on a 2494 as opposed to the 2333 and i doubt it was in my case.

Guys, I am in the market for a new monitor. My only two options are the 2333SW and the 2494HS. Now, the 2494HS has always seemed the best option to me, but since seeing the 2333SW for R1.8k at Kalahari, I am doubting that.

I most likely won't ever have 3 device plugged in at once, so only VGA and DVI is fine as I can get a converter (DVI to HDMI). That and the speakers are the only "real" advantages of the 2494HS, and neither will specifically benefit me.

Which should I go for and is there anything regarding problematic issues that I should know about with either monitor? (I already know about the stand issue with the 2494HS and that bothers me quite a bit)

At R1800 it's impossible to say no to the 2333SW.

Amazing screen, you will be more than happy!

I meant pics of the tilting :)

Got the post in a little late though.

Would have to agree with you. Unless you really need speakers and HDMI it's not worth it.

May as wel disregard the speakers on the 2494 - they're of the kuk variety - don't expect too much from them.

No it tilts for sure, just checked it i am typing from one but the way you put it together it did not give me the impression it tilted, only when you told me now it does did i pluck up the courage to push harder hahah.

R1800?

Looks like R2200 to me :) But on another note I saw the 2494HS today while at PCInt, first thing I thought was it looked really long compared to how high it was? But I was you I'd go for the 2333, the 2494 is nice but unless you wanna make use of the HDMI I don't see why it's worth taking over the 2333...As for speakers, if you don't have normal speakers then maybe otherwise I'd rather just use headphones :)

EDIT - @gifs - Beat me to it :)

O yes did i mention easy it was to install the stand, never thought for one second i was going to toss it against the wall like my old 2233 :p

I Have the 2333SW, very nice monitor, and have a hdmi to DVI cable to watch my dvd's etc.
Speakers: I suggest getting a good set of speakers, not some yukky on the side of the monitor type.

Monitors and made for viewing, not for listening, lets keep it that way :)

I don't have a need to constantly adjust the angle (tilt) of my monitor, even though I can't, I don't miss it.

Here are the physical differences, both monitors are very good.

2494HS
Display area: 521.28 (H) ×293.22mm (V)
Dot pitch: 0.2715mm

2333SW
Display area: 509.76 mm (H) x 286.74 mm (V)
Dot Pitch: 0.2655 mm

2494HS viewing area is 11.52mm wider, and 6.48mm taller. The 2333SW have a smaller dot pitch though.

Well the hdmi port is the reason why it is more expensive, ask yourself is 350 worth the port or not, if you think it is buy it is not buy the 2333.
