have just had a 2mbps telkom ADSL line installed so I now need to get a account.
Who should I go with? and uncapped or capped? (value for money)

I have been on 8ta 10+10 and before that I was on CellC 5gig a month offer(which I'm still sort of using as the 8ta connection where i am now is HORRIBLE to NON-EXISTENT) with the HUAWEI E1820 stick. It wasn't bad Speed wise and I could happily chug along with 10 gig a month.

I will mainly be using it for gaming so a decent low latency is needed.
Please give me suggestions.

I was thinking openweb but heard its not that great.

Telkom is the cheapest and never had a problem with either their capped or uncapped with gaming and also get a low latency of 210 ms for International compared to 280 ms with Afrihost.

Latency on Telkom for gaming is just fine.

50gb is still more expensive than Telkom 1mb uncapped.

I wouldn't chance it. OP wants an account mainly for gaming, why risk low latency for uncapped?

Would be easier if data amount for capped account and price requirements were stated.

50gb though?

That's 1gb a day minimum.
I could use that in an hour.

50gb/30days = 1.6gb per day

Don't see anyone using 1.6gb per day on gaming.

Uncapped has low latency and the 25% Telkom discount on top of the do broadband one makes it way cheaper with the price reductions coming soon this month.

Ultimately its how far you are from the DSLAM and from the server that makes the bigger difference.

IE Im in cape town and when I play on JHB servers I get a ping of 50 or so but when I play on cape town servers its like 13. 2mbps telkom uncapped. I get the exact same ping with capped accounts too.

Don't really see a point in that when most ISPs haven't considered the discounts and changed their prices yet.

And why do people push for uncapped when you can get a better service that lives up to your bandwidth requirements at a low cost? A capped account protects you against high latency and shaping which is what OP needs.

I get around 180ms in Dota2, and the last time I had a 7 day trail on Wow it was the same.
Tested CS:GO and got 167ms in game.
BF4 server list give me:

I'm on Openweb Gamers King account.
Torrent and company downloads are pretty much dead 8to8, but steam downloads seems fine.

Ask them for a test account?

PS. what games do you play?

Just grab a Telkom uncapped account. Performance is quite good.

I used to easily use that playing Dayz.

Also have to add patches and skype if you using those 2 so will reach the max fast :D

For me I rarely use League Of Legends like twice a week and was hitting 20 gbs at end of month.

ok... I forgot to factor in that im sharing with my flatmate... so possibly would need 100 to 150 gig.

Games I play mainly online would be Mechwarrior online (with teamspeak), Warframe, Heroes of Newearth.

What's your budget, dude?

I'm on a 1Mbps Openweb standard special account @ R109. Usually get 210ms to Europe. I used to get really good latency on Cybersmart Capped account a couple years ago. I've also played on Telkom Internet...they are much the same as my Openweb account. It also depends what part of the country you're in to what latency you get. I'm in Durban. Afrihost is usually 10ms higher to Europe.

I took a look at openweb's offerings and thought they have a few very good deals.
My one friend is on openweb though and he says that its really bad... especially for any sort of browsing.

so I still don't have any concrete advice/suggestions on who to go with.
