Ja...the stores can get rather busy. When I visit our stores in Eastgate I kinda feel sorry for both the client and the consultants. Can get very hectic and everyone wants attention at the same time. But 1 hour beats 14 days :-)

Tell me about it :p Not that I'm in a rush... its for a tablet PC which I don't have yet.

Ah, I just went ahead and got the bloody 2GB + 2GB @ R 149, and secured myself a nice K4505-Z (Okay, which I had to flash to get it to work) to go with it!

Sure, if you're running torrents you're going to get killed, but the XBOX uses like 500MB of data for every 30 hours of play. I just log onto www.vodacom.co.za every now and then and check that I'm still within my limits. Must confess, got a little scared this morning when my profile showed a very big R349 next to my data bundle, but I was ensured by 082 111 guys that this was only because the online realtime statement was matching Standard Package with Standard Price, and that the real promo price would reflect on my statement. Now I'm running my torrents on my inlaw's uncapped MWEB, and only using my 3G for gaming and Skyping my dad in NZ!

I have been with Vodacom since I can remember, and have really never had any reason to complain... that being said, I'm also a Top-Up client :D Nevertheless, This seems solid. Got my K4505-Z in my laptop bag with a prepaid sim, and the contract sim in my U220 connected to the DIR-451 to make my home a WiFi hotspot. Whoohoo!

I have this deal, and stay very near edenvale (10 mins away).
In terms of speed / connectivity I have had no issues.

Pricing is good, watch out for OOB shark though
- When you take it out ask them to put the minimum amount you can on the call limit (R100) which means you are capped at R100 over the R149 ie capped at R250.
Not sure why it can't be capped at R0 over R150 but hey they have to make money.
- Monitor your usage on the Vodacom website or using 31050 with MM sms frequently.
- They should call you when the contract is nearing expiry, though I would set yourself a reminder to cancel the contract after the 1 year lapses otherwise you are changed R349 or something like that.
- I think this is the best R149 contract deal so far compared with Cell C contract (only 2 Gigs no night owl) and MTN (24 months wtf?!?) though the best option IMHO is prepaid with Cell C if you have reception, not tested myself so can't say.

I think you can cap at R50 over, but it's not guaranteed

Damn, I need to apply that cap as well... Mine is still open...

But yes, I have had no issues. Mine is running through a 3G router, connecting a media player, XBOX, IP camera, Desktop and Notebook to the internet. Getting around 3.5mbps down during peak on Speedtest.net and Vodacom Speedtest...

Right, just phoned 082 111 and had it put in place. Takes about 3 minutes. Details are as follows:

- Minimum limit is R100 ON TOP of subscription as explained above.
- Notification will be sent via SMS (to a number of your choice so you can let it go to your cellphone) when the cap reaches 50%, 75% and 90%.
- NB: THE CAP CANNOT BE APPLIED WHILE CONNECTED!!! It will only lock the account from further expenses once you disconnect. This means that if you are downloading a 1GB torrent and the cap is reached halfway through, it will not stop at R 100 and only stop you once you reconnect. For this reason it's particularly important that you look out for those notification SMSses, and disconnect once you get the 90% warning to avoid unplanned charges.

you must have accidentally been helped by a customer care agent that knows their job - I have just called 082 111 and spoke to Barbara and the result was:
I can't change the number where my notification SMS is sent to. (I told her I can)
I can't change the number where my notification SMS is sent to, to an MTN number (I gave up...)
Was told my account cap was already set to R50 (wonder if that is so...)

Can somebody from Vodacom help me? Will PM Vodacomdata... :-(

You can not trust those SMS's. I have received many SMS's which are incorrect. For instance last week I received one that I have used 70% of my CAP but actually I have only used 900Meg of my 2GIG CAP.

You will get two types of SMS's if you load a call limit on the line.

1. SMS informing you of how much of your DATA bundle has been used (This SMS can be sent to your cell phone also if you request it. I have acces to this on my system)

2. SMS informing your of how much of your call limit has been reached. (The destination of this SMS can not be changed)

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm extra careful so I keep record of my router connection status indicating how much traffic has gone through it, as well as log onto Vodacom every now and then and verify the balance with that of the router...

Rather safe than... um... broke!

Yes, but what a hassle, is it worth it ?

Well, I honestly don't have any troubles with it. It really depends on your personal needs, and as such one person is bound to love it while the other hates it. At the moment, I'm looking for dependable, fast internet that can intergrate my home and not cost me an arm and a leg. I would have loved to get ADSL instead, but Telkom dropped me so I don't really have any alternatives. It's 3G or smoke signals at this point...

2gb + 2gb on phone contract

At the moment I am buying a bundle every 40days (approx) for R185 for 500mb to use on my cellphone. I am a vodacom contract owner and would like to take out their 2gb + 2gb data bundle, but port it to my cellphone's sim and use the data on my phone.

I do not see why on earth I should pay more for A LOT less on the same network.

Does anybody know if this is possible?

Nope, you can't bolt it onto an existing contract.

And I think the "promotion" ended the 6th of July, so it's back to paying R389 for 2GB data.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am so "gatvol" with Vodacom.

I can get 500mb on my Cell C "Speedstick" for R50. Oh, plus I actually get R50 airtime on top of that. What does VC give me? Not even their ****ty promo of some free MB's between 00:00 - 05:00.

I think everyone in this country is tired of Vodacom's silence wrt lower data bundles.

Pieter Uys mentioned a while ago that they know it's too high, but it doesn't look like they want to do something about it.

*I got myself the 8.ta deal and not looking back.

I'm rocking my 5gb cell c, but my problem is the amount of data I use on my phone.

Would have been nice if we could choose our own "smartphone" bundle, or Vodacom revamp their smart packages. I think the people who design these deals/packages for Voda, must all be dinosaurs. :p

At the moment Vodacom only offers the smart 120 & 500 packages.

I want more data & less minutes!
