I don't have much faith in Vodacom and I would prefer not to support them again but I am strongly considering going for this deal. But only as a backup for my Cell C. I will use it if I run out of my Cell C bandwidth or if Cell C goes down. The 2GB nightowl might not be ideal, but it will come in handy and I will make use of it to do a few downloads. (Which I currently can't do).

I would much prefer to go topup for obvious reasons, but I will monitor my usage very carefully.

The only real positive about this offer is that unused data carries over until the end of the next month which will come in very handy.

I can't complain about R37 per GB for mobile data at this stage.

True, but keep in mind that voda first use the new data before it use the carry-over data. So you must first use the 2Gig before you can use the carry-over data from the previous month.

which then means you can actually only benefit from carried over data every second month at the most

Hmmmm, yes, thats true. Gets a little complicated. Especially when you have to watch yourself like a hawk not to go over the limit. The only positive of the offer doesn't seem so positive afterall.

Would be nice if one of the other "players" came to the party within the next week. Very doubtful. MTN and 8ta seem to be asleep.

and another question is: Once you've exhausted your 2GB Night Owl, do you use the 2GB daytime allocation or do you go OOB? If OOB, then you have TWO chances of going into dreaded OOB

With the previous Night Owl special, you would use your normal bundle after your Night Owl bundle was depleted. I don't see why they would change this.

That is beter than a best effort service besides the OOB rate is much less than what Vodacom has current have on offer.
And this is why i voted none of the above(as asked to explain in poll).

Without reading the whole thread (it may have been mentioned), if they had pricing comparable to Cell C 5GB I'd make the change back to Vodacom.

My speeds are up 5x what they were 6 months ago and Cell C is - well - down 10x what it was :/

I feel like such a whore ...

I have suspended my upgrade with vodacom to wait for MTN's response, if they have any. I'm sure this deal could have easily been offered on topup - minus the night owl - but then VC looses oob profit.

After recently suffering an inexplicable R2500 telkom bill, and learning how painfull it is dealing with these issues, its just not a risk me - nor any other subscriber - should be forced to take.

Just remember, this promotion is on the Advanced option, meaning that your usage over and above the allocated to you on this deal will be charged at the same rate as in bundle.

Together with that and should you elect a call limit, you should be pretty well covered. You should still however monitor ure usage online...and to be safe nominate your cell number for the usage SMS's. Vodacom will then send you SMS's as your data bundle gets depleted.

No, it's a Broadband Standard bundle. The out-of-bundle rates haven't been advertised yet, but everyone is assuming they'll be the same as on the 2.3GB bundle, i.e. R1.20 per MB.

reply from vodacom :
The promotion deal is a once off 12 month contract. The contract is only valid for 12 months.

We have a Call Limit service in place that will restrict the device and sim card to carry on downloading. This service is not directed at Data usage only. It will restrict calls and sms messages. The sim card will go into a soft-lock once the cap has been reached.

Regards

Gives me a glimmer of hope.

That is not that their T&Cs say:

Read it carefully:

The current monthly price for the Broadband Standard MyGig 2 tariff plan is R 349 per month (incl VAT), but in terms of this promotion, the monthly charge has been reduced to R 149 per month (incl VAT) on a 12-month data contract. After the initial 12 months, the terms and conditions of the Agreement will apply.

Salespeople will tell you anything just to get a sale.

Hi, ive got a few questions regarding this promotion firstly would you be able to make calls using the sim card and if so what rates? And when would you be eligble for a upgrade?

Also can you add the up to 4 data sims to this? Thanx

Very sad. If Vodacom staff don't know whats going on, how are we? Everyone is saying something different.
