2nd hand GPUs - worth taking a look at?

O wait sli, no then buy it dude. Offer the guy 1.2k and get it. Awesome cooling will help with the sli, sorry i missed the sli bit if you had mentioned it. I am sure sliing to cards with standard cooling is great idea. The hawk is insane regarding how cool it runs.

Sorry didnt see your comment until now. The guy was not willing to go lower than R1400 so I just left it. Wasnt necessarily a good seller and could have bought a card that had been OCd till death - almost. True it would have ran cooler but I figured against a new card - for less - ill stick with the latter.

A motherboard with a gap of 3 PCI slots between the 16x slots + a decent case would result in better SLI temperatures than getting GTX 460 Hawks with no gap between the cards and a crappy case.

Our suppliers have informed us that the following item has been discontinued and they will no longer be stocking it

Yeah, they've pulled it from the site :(

I want a new card for BF3 and that would have been perfect for my budget!

I looked now for a Club3D 6850 (which is mostly on par with gtx 460 from what I've read), and you can get it from Take2 for R1600 or LandmarkPC for R1500.

6850 should do the trick surely?

Yeah. I'll probably end up getting one. I have never spent more than R1800 on a graphics card, and the 6850 seems to fill this price point nicely.

Back to sqaure one :( I got that e-mail as well this morning.. so lame. They decided to update their website too.

And yes Pada very true re the case, but the motherboard, well, Im not going to go out and spend more cash on a newer motherboard when this one has space enough to do SLI. Yes it might run hotter, but thats just the price to pay I guess.
I could always go 16x 4x; did some reading and the difference is only around 5%? Which I dont think is bad - then I wont have any issues with heating.

Take a look here: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/08/25/gtx_480_sli_pcie_bandwidth_perf_x16x16_vs_x4x4
and: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_5870_PCI-Express_Scaling/25.html (although this isnt exactly SLI).
Point is there isnt really a noticeable difference.

its about 5% or less, i run 16x and 4x atm, still get 8400 3dmark 2011 with hd 6870 hawks, which is spot on :)

Finally found someone that can give me results! :) Ok awesome, in my case thats going to make a big difference. Thanks!
