2TB Anytime data

Guys here's a funny story. I picked up a Alcatel HH72 router. And I get better speeds at my house then with the 618-65d.

Interesting. I did a quick google and seems this unit only supports band 38 on TDD, and not Band 40? Do you perhaps have a different sub model, or are you getting these speeds on another band?

The exact model is a HH72V2

I currently have this router. Get between 70-100 Mbps out on the farm with xpol-6 (Band 40+40)

Please do try get the MR600 v2, and not the v1. Will make your life easier. v1 you have to flash custom firmware to enable band select.

*edit after reading your other posts:
If you only have Band 3 available, don't expect 100Mbps. I don't even think Telkom does carrier aggregation with band 3. For the best speeds you need to have Band 40. I don't think you will get better speeds on any router if band 3 is your only option sadly.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I think I'm at the max the tower allows here. Don't think the router is the problem, but rather the tower with limited band availability and congestion.

Nearly 100mbpson band 3 with this alcatel router. Strangely enough on band 3 on the Huawei 618 router not able to achieve these speeds. (I also just presume this alcatel is connecting to band 3 as it doesn't seem like it can work on band 40)Screenshot_20220530_225624_org.zwanoo.android.speedtest.jpg

Couldnt be happier since the speed has been fixed one of the best deals available and I will never run out of data at this rate as data rolls.

I didnt get this deal for 2tb as I never use that much I got it because this is "uncapped/unshapped" for me :)

This more than tripled my speed compared my WISP who was charging me R999 for.

My household has only ever gone over 1TB on 3 occasions during level 5 and 4 lockdown, this is more than enough since this month is my 30 days notice and I’ll have some data carried over for July.

So the other tower came back online. (The fast tower) however I'm noticing something odd. I have 100% signal strength with my antenna, however my speeds seem to be capped at 48mbps about. On the screenshot below, i was adjusting the antenna for worse and better signal to test my theory. The speed tests where the upload is lowest was worse signal. My connection just simply wont go past 48mbps... The speed is irrelevant of the time, i just chose to do the tests now to alleviate the chance of congestion.

Any thoughts? Maybe they have a policy on the tower now that only feeds 50mbps per connection?

Have you checked on which bands it's running? That looks very similar to the results I got with the antenna and our tower which only seems to give Band 3. It could very well also be a policy to prevent congestion. Regardless of signal strength the max I can get is 45-ish. And time of tests don't matter.

Yeah, locked to Band 40+40. My settings haven't changed since I was getting 100Mbps, just suddenly have a locked speed it seems.

Then it must be some kind of congestion policy. Which could even explain my speeds too if they use it on towers with high number of users.

Could be yeah. Not sure why this tower needs a policy as its kinda out in the sticks, but you never know.

I'm going to chase the issue with Telkom and try get a solution. Will post here if they solve the issue

Would be really interesting to see what they say.

As a matter of interest here's a Speed test with my MTN SIM:
Ping: 32ms
Download: 29.64Mbps
Upload: 39.03Mbps

VODACOM:
Ping: 29ms
Download: 20.44Mbps
Upload: 6.55Mbps

So Telkom even seems to beat MTN here except for that weirdly high upload.

Does anyone have the T&C for this deal on the Month-to-month option? Or perhaps explain to me how does Telkom see a Month-to-month contract?
According to the "specials" leaflet this package is still available until the 14th June.

12Month (month to month contract just need to give 30days notice)

Telkom speed not bad in my area, tested on my S21 as I got a small backup data package that myself and the wife share on our phones.
At this price point I might consider given up my 100mbps fibre that's costing me a lot more. Doubt it would be that stable and reliable as fibre though.
