REPOSTING here as I posted under a wrong thread [:I]

Hello folks

Just want to get clarity on this. Telkom states, in short, that the 3 Gb cap is only applied to international traffic. Ok, with that said 2 questions:

1. Is it even remotely possible that they count local traffic of that cap? And IF NOT, where cna one see only the international traffic?

2. Doesnt SAIX just pay for bytes downloaded from overseas and not uploaded? If SAIX only pays for downloaded bytes, why is the uploaded bytes coming of ones cap??

Hope someone can give me a decent and straight answer.

keep well

im taking a guess they dont pay for upload.. it makes sense..
but they just love money.. so .. we all pay in the end..

why not use local proxy servers to get by the international cap??

AFAIK local also count towards the cap.

why will they bother to distinguish local and international traffic..

they don't guarantee anything and do they need to care for us?

they pay for the line, which is say 100meg, which can be used in both directions at once. For most ISPs only about 30 to 50% of the outgoing bandwidth of their lines are used. I doubt its a big issue that outgoing is included in the cap since it should only make up less than 20% for the average user.

Why dont we do some surveys on myADSL and get some idea of whats realy going on? Like ask: Did you reach your cap? If no what did you reach? What do you do online? Have you found it slow or fast? When do you use it etc?

I still havent got a clear answer yet. It would seem as if Telkom includes local traffic into the cap as well.

Any comments???

Everything. Local, International, up and down is counted.

Yep, local is couted too. Try this near the end of month if you dare :) - Head over to saix and download some game pacthes and whatever other goodies they might have .. you wil lsee that whatever Gigs you got there was counted too .. if you have that nice little email Telkom send every day or have access to their adsl graphs page .. think this is Telkom as ISP users only
