On average I do about 40GB local (mainly skype convos) and 15GB international (mainly youtube eating the b/w) per month. When DSL first came out I would often get through a month fine with my 3GB cap. These days I eat through 3GB in like a day, and that's without 'Downloading' any big files.

I go through 3GB a month on my Blackberry phone alone. Good thing broadband prices are coming down soon. 3GB goes nowhere.

Me says Telkom must do free upgrades; from 1GB, 2GB, 3GB to 3GB, 5GB, 10GB, free local after cap ;)m

Hey... Same here!

Has browsing just become more cap-consuming? * or * have "they" changed the way it is measured to "their" advantage?

10 to 30GiG would be enough for me.
You need to plan for the future. Problem is there are currently so many high bandwidth services being offered that we dont even consider them. Online backup, storage, video, etc are all beyond our grasp.:o

Personally, I wouldn't mind having 3gb international, but I definitely more local bw and better news servers. Give me uncapped int, and I'll sign up with giganews or someone. For now, my need is for local.

at least 100 GB a month in line with international standards, 250 GB would be more reasonable. Free unlimited after you reach your cap (included in a flat rate price). Unused Bandwidth roll over should apply.

I have to go to extremes to manage my usage. Split local/international routing with 2 accounts. Squid inline, caching as much as I can. Ad and picture blocking on all browsers. And being very careful about where we go, and this is just a home setup. We used to battle to hit 10 GB a few years ago when I was with SAOL, but now you can kill 10 GB a lot quicker if you arent careful.

I've read an article about the Wilson community and their broadband and I think it's pretty cool of them to give the big boys the finger. Looking at our current political change, there is speculation that Jeff Radebe might get the comms portfolio - any thoughts on that?

3gigs is barely enough for one person. Imagine if you had an entire household of teenagers/moms all surfing on the same crappy 3gb cap.

Our 6 gig cap from mweb ain't enough for us in our house, my parents do basic surfing, mail and watch the odd trailer and me, i play games alot, use steam, msn and do quite a bit of surfing and that 6 gigs is usually finished around the 22nd. 15 to 20 gigs would be enough for us. but heck yeah 100 gigs would be sweet

Some individuals were reported to have exceeded 1 TB per month using multiple 4 Mbps ADSL lines, yet another indication of the pent-up demand for uncapped local bandwidth.

I wonder where all that bandwidth was used?
