Hey interesting amount of posts aswell, Love this.

Wow, lucky you must be having time to sit here all day and post your stupid comments, saying one thing but meaning something totally different.

Clipse said:
I get really heated when people have no idea what they try to discuss, when I actually do know what im talking about and then read a ****ty comment like yours.

Sure, I can see you know what you're talking about with all your ADSL knowledge, go on leave more silly comments - keep on proving my point.
Everyone knows what contention ratio is you idiot.

Clipse said:
Classic, I see you have no idea of the current contention ratio affair, and also you have no idea that the reason everything is getting more choked is because of the increased contention ratio.. BAD not GOOD..

I know for a fact, that you have no idea what wireless adsl is nor what you were refering to as cable adsl.

Does it matter when I want to use my bandwidth, what if I paid for 3gig, and end month I only used 1gig, am I not allowed to clean the rest of my 3gig or should I just ignore the fact that I paid for it. Majority of users end month just use their remaining megs/gigs and thats why with the major contention atm estimated(?) over 100:1, you see ****ty speeds end month..

What you are explaining in this quote was exactly what I was saying to you - maybe I shouldn’t use sarcasm then you will understand. What I was saying is that
Option 1: we all want the prices to lower (agreed) this will lead to more users using the system as more people can afford it, which will lead to more bandwidth been used and the contention ratio going higher (worse).

Option 2: pay per Gig - the same effect as you said: "You believe this will solve the end month issue? Think again, it will just make room for higher contentions and more users on same bandwidth."

So both ways the bandwidth usage will get more as well as the CR.
But since you have all the answer - and are running your own telecoms company while posting idiotic comments all day, I’m sure you have a solution, as I know your telecoms company are all about giving away and not making profit - we need more companies like yours the everything could be free.

We were sitting with the same stupid comments when we rolled out C&W ADSL in the UK - all our accounts where Unlimited until we found to many users were misusing Bandwidth - we then capped it on x GB per month - found after a year that most people get over the initial "I can download everything I want" shock - so we upgraded all accounts to unlimited again.

Clipse said:
In restrospect, if your pea for a brain could think, you would realise the service would just degrade with this option, if 10000000000 people go and buy 1gig option.

This is normally the first type of comment a total idiot will make - I can’t convince you of my point so I'll start calling you some name to show how clever I am. But since you already proofed how clever you are - I'm sure this can’t be it. Keep on bursting out to everyone disagreeing with you and I can guarantee you, you just gonna keep on having your sad and unhappy life - bright spark

Well, nice chatting to you idiot - now unfortunately - I need to go to work, and you need to go to bed. Say thanks to mom and dad for your ADSL and have sweet download dreams - tomorrow you can start again asking everyone - what can I download today as I cant think for myself and I need to download something  cause I wont be able to go on if I spare a KB at the end of the month.....

I didnt care reading all your comments, I stopped exactly where you started to quote me.

I know you have no idea what you were refering to in your quotes, starting with contention or anything regarding the ADSL infrastructure in SA atleast to the bare minimum.

Respect for a pointless reply tho, you do try atleast.

Now this was classy, your right, maybe I should run my own telecom company since it would really be strange to see great prices, alot of users and hey great profit would still be reality. Ill keep this option open for my future projects. Here I could see that you really are rooting for Telkom and the way they run things, even less points for your moronic views.

Something that I think you should know, You dont need to be rich or run a famous company to know the same or more about whats going on. Since when does money = intelligence or even better, knowledge?

To end this stupid chat with you i'm going to tell you a secret, but you must promise to tell no one....

Shhh - we ARE NOT the first country in the world with this problem - it started off expensive in all countries.

I know - I've helped with the layout for C & W ADSL. Sure you did the same. But you still think (seeing that we all have 1:1 contentions - sarcasm) that you're not slowing down things for others. It's funny how some people think they know every thing only because they have ADSL.
Start working in the field like I did, and you'll realize all is not black on white you selfish prick

yes yes ronniestander, you have taken all factors into consideration and win this unofficial debate. The difference between me and you, your completely bias with regards to Telecoms in SA by all your posts here.

Its easy to say, What Telkom is doing atm is justified by random remarks but sadly for you and Telkom, there is people digging deeper into whats going on in SA(I really dont care about your C & W and what not in UK) and we know the situation is retarded. The approach taken with the per gig billing atm is also not a move forwards, its a move into telkoms pocket.

btw.. SHHH there is no reason for SA to lag behind 10-20years with regards to telecoms.. this is a secret aswell.

I await your reply as Im sure you have alot of bull**** to add.

No not really much to add - I'm getting bored with you now. But through all this, and since you know every thing why hav'nt you come up with a soltution that will get me an 1-8 Meg ADSL line on a 20:1 CR (which is normal everywhere else) for $9 - $19 (which is normal everywhere else). Instead of bitching everytime someone post a different opi than yourself.

So go on keep asking people what you can download - and download as much as you can - and become part of the reason why Telkom wants to charge per Gig

We use to do the same ages ago when I was working on the layout for Cable and Wireless ADSL.
So installing network infrastructure makes you an expert on the business model and on what happens behind closed doors in Telkom boardrooms? LOL!

ronniestander, if your arguments are true, then every ADSL provider in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, US, North Korea, and Japan must all be running at a huge loss every month from all the "abuse" ... in fact I wonder how they manage to make any profit at all, given that they all allow all their users to use many times more than 3GB a month at only a fraction of the price that we get charged for 2GB at 192kbps. Gosh, it's a mystery.

The only people "forcing" pay-per-GB are Telkom themselves, they are terrified that ADSL should ever become as cheap here as it is overseas (with standard monthly usage allowances of 10GB to 30GB, moving soon in some places to as much as 75GB), because cheap ADSL combined with VoIP will eat into both their leased lines and call charges revenue. I'm surprised that anyone is naive enough to have bought into Telkom's 'propaganda' so badly.

I'm not even gonna go on with this as you are obviously saying download as much as you can. See to it that if you hav 28 GIG left on the last 2 days, see to it that you download stuff you dont need - so ask everyone what can you download as you cant think for myself.

Will you stop compairing to other counties and their prices and their GIG - telkom does'nt have the same infrastructure - you are not in a 1st world country - deal with it!!
You arte not gonna see that prices soon - if ever - as long as the infrastructure is not in place.

Are you stupid enough to think I wounldt also want to pay nothing for an unlimited account.

And no - they are not running at a lost. Where do you think it will be the cheapest to do an ADSL layout - London - where you have 7 million internet users that might be interested in ADSL or Johannesburg where you dont even have that much people - never min internet or PC owners.
When broadband first stated in the UK, like everywhere else you had to pay your ass off for the service. 4 years ago I had to pay 70 pound for an ADSL line. At the time the conversion rate was R1 = 16 pounds, that is R 1 100.
Now they have their infrastructure in place and prices are great

I had my battles with telkom and what they are doing is cripling the counties internet economy, but until we have a SNO, or you take over at Telkom, we gonna have to deal with it. Not because we want to but because they can.

Hi all! I see things got a little personal around here! :) Isn't it 'all for one and one for all' around here? I guess a bit of 'contention' between members is a bit healthy anyway! Clispe, I don't know your friend Morne, I live towards the back end of Protea Village, but he definitly is a fellow telkom hostage! We probably would have a jol razing our local exchanges (in our dreams) :D

Exactly what you said, you have an opinion, I have FACTS.. SA telecoms is being run like ****, this is not my opinion but its a fact and all reports point to this. Im not going to argue with a can anymore.

Btw, old statistics for Gauteng show.

Area : 18 810 square km (1.6% of total area)
Population : 6 869 100 (17% of total population)
Population density : 365.2 per square km

So I hope this shuts you up aswell, not having a clue how many people there is in Gauteng.

WESTERN CAPE

Area : 129 370 square km (10.6% of total area)
Population : 3 633 080 (9% of total population)
Population density : 28.1 per square km

Also close to 4million in Capetown.

This is stats from 1994, there would be alot more in these concintrated areas now.

It definitely is 99% of the time, one for all. But sometimes you get a prick like ronniestander who would love to go the seperate way and without any proof, throw his hips around in support of Telkom. Then you read some of his other posts, crying about not getting ADSL and how terrible Telkom is.

This makes me think that perhaps he was just lonely/bored when he started to reply to this thread.

Just btw, this forum is NOT about dealing with things, its about bitching and trying to change things, even if someone just read one comment. Your attitude is really not getting us anywhere, "Give up and take the ****" is exactly what everyone is doing in SA and thats why there is NO CHANGE in the banking industry for example.

Clipse you are my hero

Now do your Population density for other cities like London u dumb ****.
Almost 5000 per square km. Now as your tiny brain is obviously convinced - you think that it's just as cheap provinding ADSL to a 365 Sq Km population than it is to a 5000 SQ Km population

Sure you gonna try and convince us that the Population density here is the same as in other (cheaper) countries. And read again you blind idiot - I said JHB not Gauteng.

Do you really think it's just as cheap to provide ADSL in JHB as it is in London - if so you're even more stupid than I thought and if that the kind of statements you wanna make then your bitching is going to get you knowhere.

Answer the Q - Do U really think it's cheaper to provide ADSL to a lower Population density. Wake up and smell the coffee.

If that your whole debate, you are going to have to complain allot more and keep on living your sad, sad complaining existence.

ronniestander - only because you cant get adsl and telkom refused to install it to you, according to your other SAD SAD threads, dont think I give a damn, I am a happy user with 5 adsl lines atm, that I require for alot of different work.

I require prices to drop, and it should, Telkom is profiting on minimal users, maximum price. Its a strong business tactic, if you knew economy 101 you would know this and you would also know Telkom took this stance since they privatised.. Just look at phonecall increases since then till now, on hellkom.co.za report.

You have been gone from SA for 5 years as you keep on reminding us, you have no clue whats happening in SA, Cost related to bandwidth, Total international bandwidth available, Total international bandwidth utilised, Monopolies(yes this must be new to u, uk didnt open ur eyes here right?) Who is in partnership with Whom(Telkom,Vodacom) so its a controlled pricing structure across platform.

Thing is, simple minded ****s like yourself, dont know whats going on and thats the issue here. If we cant reach everyone in remote areas in SA, there is ALTERNATIVES, the problem is.. All alternatives cost a jerkload since Telkom regulate that aswell, atleast on the international infrastructure on most of these solutions.

Lets use the classic Telkom response, "Oh ADSL/ISDN/56K is best effort, you require DIGINET for X and X"

I rest my case, you utter moron.

Can they doing anything? Suppose I should'nt complain - at least I have my ADSL up and running again, after having to involve everyone from ICASA to Carte Blance

Pretty much sum up who you are, someone seeking attention, Wow did you really contact ICASA and carte blance to get your ADSL up? HAHAHAHA

Funny you mention your a web developer, but has been rolling out ADSL in UK? Now thats a deserved ROFL right there.

Looking back at your posting history, I can only shrug at your pointless posts, either moaning about Telkom ASWELL, your Afrikaans story was very touchy tho.. kind brings out the little man in you.

Wow now you told me - u single minded idiot. Thanks for answering my question. I can see now that you do think the prices for providing ADSL to a 5000 per sq km population is the same as providing it to a 355 per sq km population - shot.

Btw - I do have ADSL - 3 days after they said they cant provide it for another 6 months, my installation took place.

So what is it that you really want - cheaper prices, a house for free, maybe someone elses farm?

Now stop crying - you bore me now - it was fun chatting to such an single minded idiot...

Some of what Ronnie says makes sense:

- It is often the norm for a service to be more expensive at roll out especially if it has large initial capital costs to cover.

- South Africa does have a lower population density than England and it is logical to infer that this would increase costs on a line based service.

- There is supporting evidence that usage does go down once people get used to having broadband.

Clipse try not to get so aggressive just because someone is not of the opinion that everything Telkom does is bad. This is supposed to be an open forum not a 'only post anti-telkom views or you'll be flamed and abused forum'.

kobie your correct, but refer back to the first post he made where this all started to get personal.

ronniestander said:
This is the silliest thing someone could have ever said. Is'nt our fight to get lower prices. What was it we all agreed with - "with lower prices more people will be able to sign up" - rigtht?

So what you are saying then is that will also make room for "higher contentions and more users on same bandwidth" - thats very clever - shot!!

Im not going to take that kind of attitude when he knows nothing originally about me or what I have tried from my side to do in our telecom situation.

You two guys have succeeded in completly derailing this post and IMO that is what the Private Messages are for.

Now kiss and make up.

Wisecrack - yup your right, derailed and abused. This happens from time to time ;-)

i will now attempt to put this thread back on track...

dc++

might be frustrating but it should be fast if you use a local hub.

oh, question for clipse: does local bandwidth usage make international slower? say like using dc++? if it does then our friends at Telkom really were cheap bastids with their infrastructure

Ill tell you the facts, we have more than enough local bandwidth available, any slowdowns locally is a result of Telkom managing things either completely screwed up or just restricting local bandwidth to prove any point they may have with regards to bandwidth.

The local bandwidth available issue has been raised by IS and MWEB during ICASA hearings before aswell, also stating we have alot of local bandwidth with Telkom ruling and billing with an iron fist. We have more local bandwidth available than International, Naturally. All International traffic go via the local loop then international pipe. Local Access wont make international access per say slower, it could if the whole local loop gets congested but that should not happen with our available local infrastructure.

TELKOM DOES NOT OWN ANYTHING, TAX PAYERS PAID FOR IT. Sorry for that bit, but its something that needs to be reminded every now and then.

thats what i suspected yes.

which raises the question how on earth we can be charged for something that costs nothing (since there is now international bandwidth involved here).

sheesh, if you pay for 30GB you bloody well can download the sickest, erm, adult entertainment on earth for all i care. if you pay for your usage, you flippen use it like you want to. just like the prepaid power, except that the power can be used any time and carries over. if you dont want 30GB get a crappy 3GB and enjoy being limited.
