Oh ****!!! I don't think people realise what a massive epidemic this can cause. He may be the first case, but evidence of mutation is popping up everywhere. The virus may simultaneously mutate all around the world.
 
tamiflu isnt a cure-all for influenza anyway. it prevents the new replicated viruses from exiting the infected cell. if you take it, for example after 48h since the symptoms start you wont really see much difference. jeez people, go on and whip up some mass hysteria why dont you. this isnt really that bad. what if alligators and lions mutate into a new cross breed animal. OMG that would be terrible :rolleyes:.

:o yep. all this hyped up BS reporting is really grating me. sorry.:) (but beware the coming of the liongators! laugh all you want now, but i'll have the last laugh when they eat all of you. unless they eat me first. that would suck.)
 
No i completely agree with you! It's highly annoying that people fall for these news stories hook line and sinker.
 
tamiflu isnt that effective anyway. flu mutates the whole time. that's one of it's quirks. H1N1 isnt that special.

You are, no doubt correct in your view that we are overreacting. The questions however remains : Why did the WHO declare H1N1 a pandemic? Level 6 no less.
Why do they keep people that contracted H1N1 in isolation wards? Why is H1N1 a notifiable disease?
It never happened before that a "normal" flu was declared a pandemic by the WHO.
I suppose that the World Health Organisation also overreacted.

Maybe i should go on a extended holiday to a very remote place so as not to get swept up in the mass hysteria about this flu. LOL!
 
influenza A causes a pandemic every 20-30 years. funnily enough it was mostly H1N1 variants. i dont really feel like giving an influenza lecture now, but swine flu has been around for yonks. it is nothing new.

edit/insert:

so you get influenza A, B and C as per variation of their nucleoprotein and matrix protein antigens. Influenza A is the virulent bugger causing pandemics, while C is believed in some cases to be asymptomatic. influenza A further varies by their haemaglutinin (H) and neuramidase (N) antigens. the virus uses the haemaglutinin to bud into a cell, and neuramidase to bud out after replication. medicines like oseltamivir and zanamivir block the neuramidase. further antiviral therapy consists of specific antiviral agents like amantadine and rimantadine. if you have an uncomplicated case of influenza, there is no real need to go for these antivirals.

I see it's just starting to hit townships now. Now it'll definately become a problem. I just want to know why it's called swineflu if it's got nothing to do with pigs?:D
 
More people die from the normal flu each year yet nobody seems bothered by that. So sorry but i don't really give a hoot what WHO says.

I does have to do with pigs and humans and birds.
Two strands of the pig flu, two of human flu and one of bird flu.

Hypothetically Speaking

Speaking hypothetically looking at this as a purely imaginary scenario as if I was a BioWar expert. :D

The best place for the "flu" to mutate into something more serious would be FIFA 2010.

Wonderful place to infect a lot of different people that will then fly off to many different parts of the World.

I wonder what the %'s of recovery is for people with hiv/aids. Worst possible time too, recession + winter = trouble for an outbreak as people will just think its the cold and delay getting checked out. If it hits poor area's i have little doubt it will spread fast there.

Hence my comment on it hitting the townships. Lots of HIV cases there.:D
