Captain Mlungisi Matidane said the truck was travelling from Verulam in KwaZulu-Natal to various destinations in the Eastern Cape, including Port Elizabeth and Queenstown, when it broke down at around 23:00 on Sunday.

The driver and two colleagues decided to sleep in the truck biut were suddenly confronted by four men wielding bush knives.

When they later returned they found that 21 double-seaters and 13 single-seaters had been stolen from the truck.

Matidane said "they put it on their backs" when asked how the sofas were moved.

Police focused their investigation on the nearby village and found the sofas and arrested the men - between the ages of 35 and 60.

The sense of entitlement is strong...

Sofa so good. I've never heard of a single seater sofa - and double seater sofas are also not that common. Could it be that these are actually three and four seater sofas for *regular* sized people?

not sure why when a truck breaks down, certain members of our population think its a free for all!!!!

Hang on, why is this any different to a truck being hijacked anywhere else on the globe?

Because the truck wasn't hijacked? It broke down and was subsequently looted.

Our company / transport companies that do loads for us have also been subject to looting after a break-down / accident in the *wrong* areas.

Reminds me of Lord of War with Nicholas Cage when cargo plane ran out of fuel and touched down on a dusty strip in Africa somewhere. He fell asleep in the bush nearby, woke up in the morning and the whole aircraft was stripped down to a bare shell, not even a single piece of wire left LOL. Welcome to Africa.
