I have exactly the same problem as you guys. I called Telkom about it on Saturday the guy said he will log a call and then I need to phone back.

I was just informed by my girlfriend that a Telkom technician came around to the house today, to have it checked out, but she didn'n know what it was about and then sent him away!!! :twisted:

Yes, I have spoken to them. They tell me I'm on 1Mbps now. I confirmed by logging to my account and checking myself. My problems are intermittent though. When I got home from work,, I was syncing at 604Kbps....I just rebooted my router, and now its flying at 1024Kbps....

I strongly Telkom is "to blame" here....I know several people who are experiencing the same issues I am. I guess I will just have to "ride the storm" until the upgrades have all been completed.
 
Hi Guys

I was upgraded yesterday to the 1meg from the 384 speed,i had to call telkom and tell them to activate my profile to 1meg.
Held on the line for half hour ,at least the connection is now fast.

ok ive found the error. @lantic still has me on their 384k uncapped coz there is a price difference(Like 10rand). i need to send them an email to ask to change my account with them so i can have full speed. now this is going to take a couple of days. gosh.
 
My ISP is Mweb - they have definitely upgraded me to a 1Mbps account. This happened even before Telkom "bumped me up"
 
I think I (somewhat) got to the root cause of my problems. I tried to make a voice call this evening...the line is VERY noisy and I cannot make any calls. Amazingly, my DSL works, but, as I have mentioned, its not very stable.

I've logged a call with Telkom - no ref number received via SMS though....and its been > 30 mins ...
 
Just got home from work and went online to find I have been upgraded, with no calls to Telkom!

speedtest.net results:

Ping: 40ms
DL: 650Kbps
UL: 420Kbps
Server: Jhb MTN, from Pinetown Durban

Not 1Mbps but still double what I had so I smiling :)
 
Upgraded... No call this time (although i did try THRICE two weeks ago and got no where). Friend told me to check it out and lo and behold 1Mbps sync.
 
I was also upgraded to 1mb last week sometime. (Pinelands, Cape Town). However, I've noticed that my upstream speed seems to fluctuate dramatically. The router was initially syncing at 502kb upstream, but then after a few days dropped down to 102kb upstream!

Rebooting the router last night put it back to 502kb upstream but will see how it fairs over the next few weeks. Speedtests have given my download speeds around 800kb which is pretty good. pings are around 65ms according to Speedtest as well. Will see how it fairs on Xbox gaming this weekend between SA and Australia.
 
Hello. I am up to 1024/512 since this morning from 384. So happy. (Walmer, PE). Spoke to some of my friends in Sunridge and Lorraine. Also no more 384!
 
HI, just wanted to ask if anybody in the East London area had been upgraded from 384 to 1024 yet - when use the telkom adsl checker, it says "ADSL availability and maximum speed supported by your exchange cannot be determined at this stage" any ideas?
 
I'm in southern suburbs of CTN. Line upped to 1MB about 2 weeks ago. Its been absolutely stable since

- DL speed: Lowest is ever been is 90k. Max is about 102k
- UL Speed: Runs between 40-55k
- Torrent downloads: Runs between 80-95k

So far...I'm happy. Lets hope it remains stable or see what happens after the next outage.

My line was upgraded to 1MB about 2 weeks ago. Its been absolutely unstable since

Download speed drops to 15kb everyday sometimes its @ 120k but most of the time its @ 30k also my router just loose connection randomly and needs a restart ( I do this also everyday ). The strange thing is I don't download a lot @ all .The most I did for a month was 26GB of data and that includes Online game play .

Fortunately my connection doesn't drop but the freakin router keeps dropping my wifi network. I've managed to DL just over 100GB this month and this was by 18-Oct.

Sorry to hear about your problem. That's just not cool! What does Telscum say about it? Anyone else in your area having the same problem?

I phoned Mweb today 1st checking there side then I will phone hellkom
Ok I have spoken to mweb and so far it looks like the problem is on telkom. Guy said something like the noise lvl is 56db and cuasing the problem also said I should take my router to mweb store to make sure its not the router(billion w40 )

Im just worried I still have a 5102G modem which is seriously old, cant find firmware anywhere and when I go into my router settings it also says my connection is unchanged. Does anyone think that I might have to get a new modem if I dont find firmware updates?

No, you're modem will be fine if it worked with 384k but depending on the line quality some routers do provider stronger connections than others. With 1Mbit it shouldn't have any trouble though unless you are seriously far away from your exchange.
