384 Kbps to 1 Mbps Upgrades

I called today as well, twice, and tried to get mines upgraded. I got the same BS both times that they recreated/reset the port and I have to wait 6 weeks for their system to update. :|

Call again. Ask for an ADSL profile reset/recreate.

Yeah asking for port reset doesn't help (it didn't help for me.)

Ask them to recreate your ADSL profile as ld13 says, or say to the person: "I should be on 1Mbps, but I'm still on 384, could you please sort it out for me quickly? Bang. Problem solved.)

Called on Tuesday. Did a port reset. Nothing.

Called today, asked for an "ADSL Profile reset" she said it will not help as the lines are still being upgraded and it will happen automatically but she "doesn't know when". I'm already paying for 1Mbps on my WA account. This is just getting irritating.

I called again and this time one of those agents told me they'll recreate my ADSL profile, without me asking. Nothing happened. Facepalm

I'm happy I was one of the first to try, looks like they were told not to do manual upgrades anymore. Doesn't mean you should give up phoning though, maybe you'll get lucky and someone will help.

I called in on thursday evening at about 18:10... Just told them that i see my line speed is 1mbps and my router only synching at 384k.... They changed my profile and asked me to restart my router. 1mbps :)

I had to ask them to reset my adsl profile and reset my ports…just resetting the profile didn't help

Alright, so I called Telkom yesterday and got my 1Mbps line. Then I increased my Afrihost internet package to 1Mbps and the speed test told me I now had a speed of around 0.80 Mbps (whereas it used to be ~0.30). But it seems that it's very volatile, and watching Youtube videos, for instance, quickly brings it to its knees -- this morning, I did a speed test, it said 0.79. Then I opened a Youtube video but it buffered unbearably slowly, changed itself to 240p and even then didn't play smoothly. Did another speed test and now it's at 0.30...

I don't get this, why could this happen? :(
My router claims that my "DownStream Connection Speed" is 1024 kbps, and I'm certain I've already upgraded the Afrihost package, as I've already gotten adequate speeds. Why did it suddenly take such a nose dive :/

Try the telkom speed checker and see what your area's maximum speed is for your exchange.

It doesn't even tell me anything about that, for some reason, and never has :(

I phoned Afrihost and asked them what it might be; they told me to call Telkom and make them reset the port again. Did that, but it still wasn't any better, and he said my line attenuation is very high... so he logged a fault and the tech support is supposed to get back to me... :S

well I phoned telkom yesterday to reset my ports and he said it was done and now will have 1mbps
just did a speed test now and these are my results:
Download Speed: 153 kbps (19.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 94 kbps (11.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 734 ms

After having a good time over the weekend, grabbing stuff at 2-3X the old speeds, our ADSL was very slow this morning. Speedtest return 0.48Mpbs, so I rebooted the router the speed was back to 0.89. Strange, and a little disturbing

after another call to "refresh ports" didnt help then transfered to the DSL support and finally it works !!
its now showing 1mbps :D yay

Saturday I saw this thread and decided to check what my line was on using the ADSL checker. It showed 1Mbit. So I tried and checked, restarted my modem etc.

Still nothing. So phoned Telkom. 5 Minutes later I was officially able to use my 1Mbit <3 Apparently according to the tech I spoke to. The adsl account itself wasn't upgraded yet. Though I would then assume my Mweb account would have downloaded fine at 1Mbit. But either way. I have 1Mbit now and Im happy ^^
