Not I'm running it at 384 for business and it is good enough. Only difference you will see when downloading

only difference:

sites load a bit faster

instead of downloading at 40KB/s you download 450KB/s
instead of uploading at 12KB/s you upload at 40KB/s

im on 384k and happy with it. the cost of jumping to 4mb isn't worth it for me. so news24 will load up in 2 secs instead of 4 :)

You`ll notice the difference when watching streaming video.
If you`re downloading normal files, it`s obviously faster, you`ll also notice your 3 gig cap not lasting very long.

Its only worth it if you intend to download alot and have an uncapped adsl account,

For gaming it will not decrease ping times.

I reckon telkoms going to be do something like this soon:

1mb -> 4mb
512k -> 1mb
384k -> 512k

If we are really lucky then they will combine the 384 and 512 together like they did with the 196k and 384k and gives us 1mb, and push the 1mb line to 4mb.

or with telkom media being licensed, I reckon we will soon have 8mb adsl or greater, its going to be needed if they intend to do video on demand etc.

I keep hearing rumors that Telkom has been installing ADSL 2+ DSLAMs in there exchanges so to be honest there is no excuse why we cant have 24mbit/s internet like they have in central london.

Yep people have been put onto 24meg trails for quite some time now.. Im jst wondering when its going to be released to the general public.

Depends what you want it for I guess, from the gaming perspective 384 works great as a client but if you want to host you need a 4Mb.

Going from 384K to 4MB on 3Gig cap...not seeing the point to be honest. Rather keep the 384K and opt for a lager cap.

What games are you playing online? because my BF2 lags pretty badly most times and im on a 384k with an unshaped SAIX account

I was on a 384, went to the UK used a 1meg line, and immediately noticed the difference on my return to ZA. I upgraded immediately. Vast improvement on all levels of internet use. I'm far more productive come work and play time on the net.
Worth every penny, and a 3 gig international cap is fine as far as I'm concerned. However, as past experiences have taught me, an increase in line speed consumes your data allocation much quicker so be warned and be ready to cough up.

Overall the irritation on using a 384 line, combined with my impatience and need for faster FTP, streaming, browsing, downloading, and skyping (sometimes all at once) was too much, which justified the upgrade.

Once you go up to 4meg you download faster, meaning you tend to use it more and more as things get done more quickly if your an avid internet user you'll blow 3 gigs in no time ;)

I have IS Uncapped at 512Kb but getting 1024 connection so I'm very happy :) If you can justify +/-R1400 a month.

There's nothing "ouch" about it. Yes, it's not fast. Yes, it's miles behind international speeds, but we live in a 3rd world country.

It's been reduced in price a lot since it was first launched and the performance you get from it is more than adequate for some people's needs.

You cannot honestly say dial-up or ISDN would be a better option for a first-time internet user, considering the cost of phone calls.

Who was recommending dialup? :confused:
