384k and 25mans

Not really, I've experienced 10mbit in SA, and while its really nice, its not that a big difference between 4 and 10mbit than there is like with 384k to 4mbit.

actually, guess what, 4mb is rubbish, go raid on a 24mb line, then we talk again :D

After 4mb anything more is indeterminate unless downloading and playing

Latencies however....

guess I did forget the latency, which was a lovely average of about 70ms or so. and that it wasnt in SA either. my bad :p Ive had over a year to get used to the shocking quality of sa internet, so I dont miss it too much, except when I wake up crying in the middle of the nite for no apparent reason

Consider it a badge of honor if you beat some of the best international ( PvE or PvP ) players with latency that would mean suicide for your opponents

Above 10mbit latency don't change much with more speed, in fact it only change depending on the technology used. Ie. Fibre will have less than 1ms to the next hop, adsl will at the lowest be around 4-5ms to the next hop from 10-24mbit ect.

I think what makes a bigger difference for the European connections in WoW, is the much shorter distance the signals need to travel, so saying 70ms latency is nice isn't something you can really compare. I have experienced 100mbit and 1000mbit links in South Africa, and yes they are awesome, too bad you still need to travel half the planet to get to e European WoW server.

Thus I am not really concerned about the 24mbit connections in WoW, its more to do with the shorter distance than it is with the actual internet speed.

Just something note:

4.1 PTR Notes
User Interface
The Network category contains the options "Optimize network for speed" and "Enable IPv6 when available". "Optimize network for speed" will be enabled by default, and will send packets more frequently at the cost of higher bandwidth. The higher bandwidth may lead to disconnects for some players who have limited bandwidth. Players getting disconnected frequently should try unchecking this box.

WoW thats A LOT of WORK to just be able to raid 25 on 384k!

I am lazy, and 4mbit just works out of the box. Lucky for me I get it as a benefit for free, as well as my ISP account is free. So I do understand there is a huge cost involved usually.

So I do feel sorry for you okes sitting on 384k, you really don't know how awesome the 4mbit experience is.

Not as much work as you think.
Setting Antivirus updates to manual is a one-time thing.
Disabling automatic windows updates is also one-time.
Same with Adobe updater etc.

The only "regular clickwork" is quite fast and easy.

Raid starts forming -

1) Alt-tab, exit Steam and Skype.
2) Open and connect Vent if its not already open anyway (Mine is always open when WoW is active)
3) Back into WoW, (using addon called "Addon Control Panel") activate my Raiding Profile and click "Reload UI".

All in all, takes me 30 seconds max.

When I'm done raiding -

1) Addon control panel, activate "Regular Profile" and "Reload UI"
2) Alt-tab and disconnect/exit Vent [OPTIONAL]
3) Open Steam and Skype.

I would do the same if I was on any connection, as I play on US servers.
The distance is quite an extra bit, and anything using the line can cause some really hardcore disconnect fests.

I've played WoW on my company's line a few years back.
Full premium Diginet 12Mbps (cost them like 36k per month!)... my latency was still only 350ms...

My 400ms on 384k is pretty much what you're gonna get in this country.

those bosses arnt the problem, try chimaeron.. i had a 384k line disabled all my addons and still dc'd, and its not such a great fight to be dcing as a healer. so now i upgraded to mweb 4mbps going great :p even got downloads running and not dcing xD

I've done Chimaeron on 25m, 384k, no noticably higher lag whatsoever.

Now, you say you keep DC'ing as healer, but that you disabled all your addons.
I bet you a fair amount thats a little bit of a lie.
You probably still kept healbot/vudhu/whatever running.

Those addons are notorious for sideband spam. Healbot can be told not to spam in it's setting, dunno about the others.

Mate, if you can't raid 25 on 384 with things like DBM, Healbot/Vuhdo, Power Auras, Omen, Vent/TS etc on then 384 is not mend for raiding 25 with. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these addons.

This should not even be discussed. Its only us retarded SAcans that even have this crap internet. Don't blame addons for living in a **** country. WOW and its addons is not made with 3rd world countries in mind :)
