3D downloadable content

You think the Sammy is better than the LG? I have read the Sammy software is terrible
Don't know where you read that, but in my experience Samsung's signal processing firmware is the best out there (scaling, de-interlacing and motion handling), you don't get to be #1 (by a long shot) by producing TVs with mediocre picture quality.

The problem with the polarised 3d tv's is that if you look at is sideways all you see is blackness. So if you lie on the couch you cant see anything on the tv with the polarised glasses on, whereas the shutter glasses doesn't matter which way you sit. Tho if you wear them goggles for a long period of time you may have to lie down :p

Personally I prefer the LG's with the polarised glasses, I will just sit up straight and watch tv.

The LG does not have this prob anymore - I promise I can watch from anywhere I like and at any angle I like, still crystal clear 3D.

The Sammy media streaming capabilities are less than the LG (IMO).
Basic DLNA streaming functionality is much of a muchness on both, but yes the high end LGs are bundled with Plex by default, which you must download yourself for Samsung SmartTV models. But this is a double edged sword, you're potentially not on the latest debugged version. Search Youtube and you will find performance complaints (e.g. LG Plex vs Apple TV2).

still crystal clear 3D.
Honestly if you think LG's passive 3D is crystal clear, I can only assume your standards are set to low. This past weekend had a chance to check a LW4500 side by side with a PS51D550 plasma (full 1080p active 3D), and the difference in picture sharpness was unmistakable from 2-3m.

And don't get me wrong, I think LG's passive 3D is very good, more than good enough for most, but describing it as 'crystal clear' is push the boundaries of truth a bit.

I disagree dude. I have an LG and a Sammy. The LG is super smooth. All my movies stream perfectly.
The Sammy has a very laggy menu, the sound "clicks" every now and again and fast forward/rewind works on some movies and not others. The LG is flawless.
For me, media steaming is top of the list.

Oh well, I always suspected there's something wrong with my eyes based on rumours, but hell, gimme a break - they're good enough for me. :D

My 46D6000 streams 1080p perfectly from Win7 media player, FF & REW. Maybe upgrade your firmware. I also have 40C530 from last year which struggles a bit with 1080p (probably horsepower related), but up to 720p is fine (off USB).

Dammmit now what do I do??? :( its not much more than the LG 42 3D

How many additional "grands" have u got for more glasses when they break and how many friends/family have u got that wanna watch things with u? Confucious says - Answer will speak for itself. :D

Lol...
When I got my 46D550 from Makro 1.5 weeks (R6,999) they had this 51" plasma right next to it for R7,999. I did not want plasma though so ignored it. If you are keen on it see if they still have it on special?
I did not check the model though.

So wait the Sammy is plasma and they use heavy active glasses- cost a fortune. Nah think I'm gonna stay with the LG
As I've mentioned previously, ask yourself how much 3D your going to do (long term). Sure first 3-6 months going to be using it all the time, checking out all possible sources, formats etc. But you will eventually run out content and the chances are the experience will no long be that fascinating.

But hey thats me, you may differ.

PS: entry Samsung glass can be got for R350.

U cannot run out of content with LG 2D->3D upscaling

LG glasses cost R5 or so each from Ster Kinekor and Nu-Metro and elsewhere  if u have 3 or 4 mates, whose gonna pay R350 for an entry level glasses? If u have kiddies as well, then its even worse.

I personally have 16 pairs of glasses that I already posessed when buying the TV as I got them when watching 3d Cinema Movies, initially free and then for 5 bucks each.

If u have to put the same content side to side with an upscaling LG, the sammy will show 2d on the same content, while the LG will show 3d on all the cheap glasses also on the same content. - Wow I would say - that is really much more than a TV. TV has become a community thing, not only a personal thing. If all are millionnaires, it would still be a hassle watching active 3D as those active glasses would be nowhere to find. Most active TV does not come with any and no-one else have stock.

I truly think that LG have dropped a "BOMB" on their competition that will play out rapidly when everyone realise what have happened (oh so very quickly, and nobody's ready).
