3D LCD or Plasma

Goofball, if you are happy with 1365x768 get the D490. It's worth the extra money for 3D. Those saying it's just a gimmick don't know what they're talking about. I would really suggest the FHD D550. I planned on getting the cheaper D450/D490 but after testing HD vs FHD in store with my own movie rips the difference was obvious to me from even 2.5m.

You should compare it to LCDs (an other TVs) you see in the future.

Maybe someone can post some optimal settings.

Now to build that (F)HD content... :D

Tried finding some optimal settings for it on the net but cant spot anything.

Did you do the whole burn in thing?
I downloaded a dvd and been running that for the last 2 days when I'm not watching.
 
Google "PNxxD550 avsforums" - should take you to the official thread.

I did, although Samsung claim break in is not needed these days.
 
Should probably wait until after the burn in period to change to those settings. I see they have contrast at 95 which they say you should not do when the tv is below 150hours.

I would be more concerned with Brightness and Cell Light settings. But yes, contrary to what Samsung say themselves, I would also break in the TV properly. I did so with my PS42C450.

FWIW never had one moment of IR.
 
I finished the breakin thing but now I cant find a website where they give the optimal settings for the colours. Any idea where I can look?

Hi. I'd just like to know what it means when you "break-in" the tv. What does it entail and is this for all tv's or just plasmas.

Just plasmas. Basically just run it for ±100 hours at half brightness, contrast and cell light settings, on which ever sources be it TV/DVD/gaming/etc.

Shouldn't be much of a concern though. This is what was done for the older plasmas, which had a 99% higher chance of burn-in than plasmas these days.

Judge for yourself. On mine, I have normal mode selected, contrast at about 80, brightness at about 70, cell light just over half way. It will depend on the room you have.

Hi, thanks for the clarification there. If I may, after reading your posts regarding plasmas, I was looking at getting the Samsung PS43d450 and now I see House and Home has the LG 42PT350 on special. Do you have any recommendation regarding the 2 units.

Decent article, can't fault the facts about the different techs.

Everyone should read it, especially newbies, who get semi's when they read things like "3D LED TV". WOWAAA!

I can read as many articles as I want, but I can't fool my eyes.

They love a Samsung 3D LED TV. Seriously. Big. Love. Movies looks simply amazing and even better in 3D on this fantastic TV. And if you're a gamer, you will be in gamer heaven. There is a reason why the new 3D LED TVs are the no 1 for all respected AV magazines and forums.

Plasmas might be more "realistic", but then I say "ignorance is bliss". :)

HD movies/sources look simply amazing on most HD TV's. Even Sinotec.

I'm trying to understand what it is exactly about your TV that renders it so much better than others. And how it leads you to say things like if you're a gamer you'll be in heaven. Will they not be in heaven on a 46" Series 5 FHD LCD, for example? Or a 51" FHD 3D plasma?

There is a reason why the new 3D LED TVs are the no 1 for all respected AV magazines and forums.

Again, not even a proper LED TV.

The panel housing and stand looks nice, I'll give you that.
