Sometimes a brand name will not bring you more speed etc.
The old Powercolour 9800 Pro in my sons machine was one of the cheaper brands at the time we bought it, but it had Samsung Ram Chips onbaord and it knocked the socks off many other 9800 cards.

Where did you purchase the Sparkle might I ask?

Powercolour 9800 PRO >>> chuck norris overclocked

It was R 3000 in SA, R 1600 in UK back then. GG Autumn of 2004

I still run mine, but then again any PowerColor > Their memory is awesome for overclocking.

LOL.

Did you know that the card actually has 256MB of ram?
With the Powercolour, You can flash a 9800 Pro(128) to a 9800 XT(256) in dos.
If I recall there are several bios versions that can give you the speed of the XT over the Pro, yet still see only the 128MB of ram or if you prefer to see the 256MB.

We did flash the card and it ran fine until another friend and I noticed graphical hitches in Far Cry, so we changed it back to a 9800Pro and it has been like that ever since.
The few extra frames was hardly worthwhile any way.

bttb, are you sure you are not getting confused re: the memory path...256bit, 128bit etc...

Nope. It is the Ram indeed.
Do some google searching. "flash Powercolor 9800Pro to 9800XT"
The 128MB version of the Powercolour 9800Pro with the R350 Core has 256MB's of Samsung Ram on the card, just like the 9800XT versions.

I would advise not to flash unless you are sure you know which card you have.
Perhaps Everest Home Edition can tell you something about your card?

Listen I must run. Got work to do.
But take into account that it is not worth flashing a good card for a few extra frames that might actually render your card useless after the flash?
I was at a friend the other day who deals in computers and a youngster came in with a dead HIS9800Pro. Lovely looking card with the HIS IceQ cooler on. Not sure what he did to the card as those HIS cards run cool, but just maybe he flashed the bios and rendered the card useless, without telling us the real reason?

My Nephew gets about 9500 points with just one 7800GTX512MB on 3D Mark 05 using a Venice 3500 @ 2500Mhz.
Hmm, sorry, noted that the test posted is for 3D Mark 06.
I will ask him later what marks he gets for 06.

show me a similar set up but with ati cards and then we can talk.

Well that P4 EE competes with the FX60 if i am not mistaken and otherwise the SLI system is slower. Doesnt have as fast HD's or 4GB ram.
