Anyone know anything about the new generation 3D scanners that are available for non commercial use?

Commercial ones costs many thousands of USD but there are quite a few smaller ones for “home use”. I’ve been experimenting with a XBOX connect and software called Skanect , with limited results.

Appreciate any tips for local suppliers and suggestions based on your experience.

What kind of resolution do you need / how much detail do you need to capture?

Well that is the thing, I'm not exactly sure of the specs of this xbox scanner we have, but suffice to say that the quality of the mesh is not good enough. See below

I would like to have a 3D scanner but they expensive as hell, especially if you want high detailed scans, so I'm ignoring it for now. If you find a good affordable one please let us know. :D

Not sure as to what you are going to be using the scans for, but my new Sony XZ2 has a built in 3d scanner.
It is quite interesting to work with, but it throws out errors if you move out of allowable space.
It took us good 3-4 minutes to make a decent 3d image of the face / head.

You bastid! I had my mind set in a cat s61 as my next phone now I'm undecided :D

I'm printing a 3d scanner if anyone in this thread wants updates/results :)

Let us know how it went and post some results of your scans.

Playing with it now.

Needs modification to work properly with s7e earphones but trying anyway.

Also, I now know I do need to upgrade my POS pc (core2quad with a very old Nvidia gpu and 12gb ram).

The software is very very slow on my machine.3dscan.jpg

3rd try, not done anything to clean up the model yet, just removed unwanted stuff. Getting there. 3dzephyr is not bad :)
