I would ordinarily not post something like this, but in these circumstances I feel I need to.

A lady that we work with quite closely in Cape Town in terms of rescuing abused animals is in a bit of a predicament. She has to now been using her work e-mail address and internet access to mail her listings for rescued animals for re-homing, but her company have now cut her off and she is possibly going to lose her job as well.

Even though this is the case, she is still adamant to continue in her efforts to assist and rescue these animals, but to do so she needs access to the internet.

Does anyone have a 3G PCMCIA modem or usb modem that they can donate or sell to us at a reduced rate so that she can continue with her non-profit work on behalf of abused animals?

We are willing to pick up the tab for the connectivity costs as far as we can.

Any and all help would be very much appreciated. If you feel uncomfortable dealing through us, I can put you in direct touch with her.

By assisting here you would not just be helping her, but would be helping many abused and tortured animals.

Mods, please feel free to move this post to another section if this is not in an appropriate part of the forum.

I will have a spare one at the end of next month when I upgrade, if you are willing to wait.

RD, you have a heart of gold :) Let me know when it is available. I will let you know if we do happen to get one before then (if we do).

Thank you for your generosity. It is hugely appreciated.

I have a domain called "minimail.co.za" on which I give free e-mail accounts to clients. Should this lady require an e-mail address with POP mail and webmail, please PM me.

Very much appreciated ITCynic, but we will be registering a domain and hosting her mail for her, but thanks for the offer. :)

Just remembered, I will see if I can get one this weekend. The person who I gave my last 3G modem to after my last upgrade, has since gotten a 3G contract with modem so I will see if he still has the other one spare.

That would be fantastic! :) You have PM.

I also have a spare HSDPA lying around in JHB. If you guys do not manage, I will be back from the states on the 5th of next month. PM me if you need it.

I sell them, and will be happy to donate one for a good cause. Send me a pm...

Gosh, I am astounded at the positive response to a good cause... There is still something to be proud of for us as South Africans!

Well done all!!!

Wow!!!

I am in awe of the positive and giving nature of the members of this forum and am at a loss for words.

My apologies for the belated reply to the posts, but was offline last night. Will PM each of you shortly.

:):):)

We sell airtime, sms- and data bundles, would be willing to load the first bundle free of charge and future bundles at cost (retail - 12%), PM me detail if interested.

Thank you very much KaasP. Will PM you her details. Are you in Cape Town too?

They are using both cards at the moment, so I will only have a new spare one when I upgrade at the end of next month

Thank you Toady. We do what we can for those who need help.

There are just so many people out there doing hard work which generally goes unrecognised and unappreciated and whilst it is virtually impossible to help everyone, it means a great deal that there are people who are willing to go the extra mile to assist those who sacrifice their own personal luxuries to help animals who are in dire straits.

The SO and myself have just committed to taking on another poor soul who was beaten and abused by some mindless morons in Khayalisha. Lucky was being beaten to within an inch of its life (he was being swung around by a piece of wire around its neck before being kicked and jumped on by these sorry excuses for human beings) and Monique and her husband managed to save it. He is a year old and managed to summon up enough courage to wag his tail when the decision was being taken to put him down.

He has another 4 to 6 weeks of recuperation before he will be well enough to be flown up to us to join the rest of our pooches for a life filled with love and attention that him and his kind so richly deserve.

That is such a heart rending story, and whilst I know it happens, I struggle to imagine the kind of person/barbarian who would do it.

Please keep us posted on your great work and the needs of your organisation - when it comes to helpless and innocent animals, most of us can afford to contribute, however small - it all helps.

I take my hat off to those who have the stomach to get involved, like Monique and yourself. We need more people in the world like her...

My 2 little dogs and my ancient (19 and a half human years old) cat are like life itself to both my husband and me, I don't know what I would do to someone I caught abusing them in any way. Whatever else, these people cannot be called human...:(:(
