This is driving me insane. I'm trying to get my CEO's 3G working again (looks like the SIM was blocked or something, so I've replaced that).

What it's doing is connecting at 3G, a few seconds later it steps down to GPRS, and a few seconds later, disconnects. It does this every single time.

It's an E620 card in a Lenovo Thinkpad X61 running XP, with the 9.3 VMC software.

I have changed location (Sandton to Roodepoort), used an antenna (signal is very good or excellent anyway), changed cards, upgraded VMC from 9.2 to 9.3, and sworn a lot.

Any ideas?

You need to stand on your left leg and face north-northeast.....

Are you sure it's connecting, what do the lights do? Are you getting an IP?

I.e. how do you know it connected in the first place?

Can anyone say... 3G Only? ;)

Hmmm. It said so? Not sure about the lights - I could check. I have replaced the E620 with an Option card, and that works 100%. Dunno why it would spontaneously start having issues with the E620 though (all 3 that I tried)

Tried it. It steps to GPRS anyway, then disconnects.

All logic points to hardware failure?

Not sure this is the problem here.

Its ic's fault!

Search for a thread on replacing E620's that had some issues and check if the serial numbers are in the relevant range.
