Hi,

Where can I get a booster/amplifier/repeater to improve the coverage in my office. My phone alternates between Edge and HSDPA constantly. If there's a cheap enough solution I'll go for it.

I've seen boosters that require adapters. I want something similar to a wifi repeater.

Boosters are illegal in SA. Contact your service provider and they will come and do a signal strength test and will install a booster for you should they deem it necessary

If you make use of Vodacom send a PM (Personal Message) detailng your problem to "VodacomData" the Vodacom Rep on their forum. This works well.

I've tried the SP root. They said they would send someone out to check the signal, then didn't (or didn't tell me they did). Then they closed the issue.

How illegal are we talking about here? I know poynting sells boosters.

This route via the rep worked for me on more than one occasion.

they can sue you for reducing network quality and loss of income, or something like that. So easily take you for millions.

Boosters really kill networks if they are not configured correctly, so dont try and do this on your own.

The installation of a repeater in a built up area is highly unlikely by the network.

The networks don't like them as mentioned earlier, they must be set up very carefully or else the repeater and serving cell loop back on each other causing chaos. The network will probably simply report you for operating unlicensed radio equipment which will usually result in confiscation of equipment and a fine at best.

Passive equipment is permitted, i.e. high gain antennas etc.

Cost wise, you are looking at around R8000 to R9000 for a dual band repeater plus installation costs! A lot more expensive than a decent antenna and low loss cable!
