OK, so one of the members here managed to give me the firmware flash code for the K4605, so my K4605 is now operating as an E372.

It works fine, I am using it plugged into my notebook at the moment as I type. And I am using it with Cell C, so that works.

Great modem, the only problem is that the TP-Link MR3420 does not have a E372 driver at all, whereas it worked with some crashes with the K4605.

Fortunately I have another K4605 for use with the MR3420.

On the other hand, Dovado 4G supports the E372, but not the K4605.

I guess that everything will come together in a month or two.

But not sure that I can wait for TP-Link to stabilise their firmware and to start supporting the 2010 Huawei modems.

This is the fastest speedtest I have done with the modem since the one below, though why the distance keeps on changing I dont know since it the same place that I am using (Johannesburg MTN Business)

Cellc simcard in Vodacom 3G/HSDPA USB Modem

Will a Cellc simcard work in a Vodacom 3G/HSDPA 3.6 USB Modem .I see that hifi corp has a special on the modem for R399 and you get 100 megs data each month for a year, but i want to use my cell c 24 gig for 12 months sim in it.

Depends which modem it is, it has to support 900MHz UMTS. If it does then it should work - the 3.6 K3565 does work, I have one (Huawei version).

But AFAIK the K3770 which is often used with the specials does not support 900MHz UMTS.

Some facts!
Same modem (1820), same place (fixed to the window)
Connected to TPLink 3420 - download speed 6-6.5M, rock stable speed.
Connected to PC - 12-14M.
Connected to TPLink with 1m USB extention - indentiifying time up to 3-5 min! Some time router swith to ADSL backup due to this long time.
Connected straight to the back of the router - 15-20 sec.
Connected to PC - 5-10 sec.
Number of USB extensions were tested.
I can think that TPLink has USB1.1 port.

USB extensions are "prohibited cable assemblies" according to the USB 2.0 specification, see here, and read the rest of the thread too, a 3G modem under poor signal conditions can draw close to the maximum current that can be supplied by a USB port (500mA). A poor quality extension may work with your flash drive, but might not be good enough for your modem.

According to TP-Link documentation it is USB 2.0

ginggs, I have now flashed both of my K4605 modems to E372's, they just work much better with the new firmware.

I also flashed Mobile Partner onto the modems.

I have now been running an E372 for 27 hours (Cell C) without any disconnect on my little Asus travel router, it just works great !

Now my MR3420 is useless, it does not support the E372 at all ! Hope they sort their firmware out eventually !

OK! Believe me. I know all these specs. My electronics experiense >30y.
Modem connected to PC with 5m(!!!) extension with external power. Self made cable. Working. Standart extension cables NOT working. (@full speed) Tried 6m cable - not working. Long delays - all according to the USB specs.
Signal -67dB.
Speed through the router stable around 6M with and without extension. Speedtest graphs look like straight line. Latest firmware. Difference only in modem connection time.
Very strange.
I'm not complaining about connection and CellC. My connection stay alive for many days, great speed e.t.c.
Was wondering that my email dowload (host is in USA) rise during past weeks from 60-100k to 5M!

*Unhooks the 20m worth of USB extension cords*

:D

When are they releasing USB3 dongles? :p

On a rather interesting note, CellC claims 42MB Lines, but the E1820 (On the back of the CellC 60GB Packaging) claims 21MB Max. Do any dongles exist that can actually connect to a 42MB Network? :p

Some Vodashops stock the K4605. Cellucity also keeps it. But phone before you go there.

There is also someone on Bid-or-Buy who sells it.

A friend of mine bought the Huawei E367 at the 8ta store. The agent told him "it won't work on Cell C as the modem is network locked". Yes, the 8ta dialler is network locked but not the modem hardware. Works fine with MDMA and Mobile Partner.

Huawei E367

I've tried the 8ta branded Huawei E367 modem, and I can report the following.

It supports both 900 Mhz and 2100 MHz bands, and can be locked to 900 MHz or 2100 MHz with the same commands as the E1820. When it connects, it reports 28.8 Mbps speed.

It has a properly functioning external antenna connector.

Works fine with both MDMA and the TP-Link MR3420 router.

It does not support the AT^U2DIAG command to disable CD, SD and NDIS. However, this command achieves the same thing: AT^SETPORT="A1;1,2,3"

Would flashing an old MTN e1820 with the Cell C firmware affect performance at all?

Dunno what I am missing, just bought a K4605 modem, connects and works very well with Vodacom, using the Vodacom Dash (10.2) and MDMA (10031beta9) ......

But no joy with a Cell-C SIM .... , mostly get a Error 628 ...

Maybe I am just too tired ... :(

I am running a K4605 on Cell C as I type this - works fine.

I have converted it to a Huawei E372, but it worked fine with Cell C even before this.

But you cannot use the Vodafone Dash, you have to use something else. MDMA should work, you just need to set the dialler up.
