3G/HSPA/LTE Modems

title says it all really. the dongle is a e220 with its firmware upgraded to be able to handle 14.4mb.
You sure? Do you perhaps mean 7.2Mbps?

The Cell C dashboard is just a customized version of Huawei Mobile Partner, you should just be able to install it on your PC, no need to change the dashboard stored on your modem. Remember the dashboard and the firmware are two different things.

The big problem you'll run into is the E220 doesn't support 3G @ 900MHz, so the best you'll get is EDGE.
Rather spring for the bundle with the new modem included.

Check the model of the built-in 3G modem in your laptop, and then check the specs (Google).

It should support UMTS 900.

My Sony Vaio P's Qualcomm Gobi 2000 supports UMTS 850/900/1900/2100.

how come the zte k3565-Z is not included..? its supports UMTS hspda 900Mhz..should work
anybody using it with sucess...

Rogerthat rogerthat! :)

I also have the ZTE K3565-z. Currently using it with VodaCon. Hope to switch to CellC at the end of the month - but don't want to buy another modem. BTW what is the current max supported speed on this modem?

Can anybody provide the specs for the K4505-z modem? Have tired to search in this forum and the net but just can't find any info. Seems to be much faster than than the K3565-z.

Lastly, does anybody know the brand and model no.s of CellC's modems for this promotion?

Thanks.

The Vodafone K4505-Z (made by ZTE) has practically identical specs to the K4505(-H) which is just a re-badged Huawei E1820.

huawei e1752 and e1820

Ginggs, thanks for your reply in clearing that up. Things become very confusing when trying to figure out what ZTE model matches what Huawei model.

Following from some of your very informative posts, is my understanding correct, that while the dashboard will work with both brands, each will have its own firmware?

Based on your response re. the K4505-Z, does that mean it will also be compatible on the CellC 4Gs data network? (Would be fantastic if this can support the higher download speed).

Will I be able to use my old Nokia phone which was 1.8Mbit HSDPA cabable? it works with Vodacom and MTN...??

OMG! Is Google down?

Geez dude, do you have PMS? I did search, but didn't find the answer at first... then I did later.

I already posted the answer above - and the phone was an old 6110 Navigator.

A Huawei dashboard, like Mobile Partner, will work with most Huawei modems. A ZTE dashboard, like Join Air, will work with most ZTE modems.
Dashboards from network operators like Vodafone's Mobile Connect are should work with all modems supplied by that operator.

A firmware will be specific to a particular modem model to fix bugs or add features, so you can find an firmware upgrade for the Huawei E220 that enables 7.2Mbps, or one for the E620 that enables USSD, etc.

I've been unable to find the specs online, but I know someone who has one they're not using, I'll try and find out.

Perhaps if you had taken the time to share this information in your first post people would be better versed to assist you.

Thanks Ginggs. Really appreciate your time and effort! Don't want to end up with yet another modem if I can help it.

I appologise for my post not being 100% accurate  It was a simple ommission - no reason to get your panties in a knot. :)

Ok, so after all the discussion does the E220 with the 7.2Mb upgrade work with Cell C's 900MHz UMTS?
