They have the bundles on contract now as well, with the advantage of prepaid being 2 "free" months.

21 MB per second deal

Hey guys,

I'm wondering about this new package of Cell C. Just saw it in the data comparison article.

I want to know if I can still use it if I'm not in a 3G area, meaning can I use it on EDGE also?

Yes. If you are in 3G area then you will get 3G speeds otherwise you will get EDGE speeds. But the you will be using the same data bundle.

Are there any South African retailers that sell any of these modems (and I don't mean Cell C). I want one that is not network locked.

Vodacom K4505 UMTS 900?? (Apparently Huawei E1820)

I can't clarify whether the Vodacom K4505 is UMTS 900 (Apparently its a Huawei E1820)
Some say it is - Huawei website says the E1820 does have umts 900
The Vodafone website seems to imply it doesnt have umts 900???
I wish Vodafone wouldn't rename the modem.....

Anyone used this on Cell C or have conclusive evidence the Vodacom K4505 is umts 900 and good to go on Cell C?
Thanks!! :D

How is it 2 free months. I am thinking that it is only 1 free month?

2GB/month:
Contract: R149x12;
Prepaid: R1499 (equivalent to R149.90x10)

5GB/month:
Contract: R299x12;
Prepaid: R2999 (equivalent to R299.90x10)

Hence two "free" months on prepaid.

According to the link below it is optional
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFeatures.do?pinfoId=2578&directoryId=2462&treeId=462

CellC E1820: UMTS 2100/900MHz
Vodafone: UMTS 2100/900MHz

There is also issue of optional receive diversity:
CellC E1820: YES, but could be in the single band or both. CellC please clarify.
Vodafone: 2100 and 900

External antenna connector:
CellC - YES , but only for antenna diversity (not a main transmit/receive antenna)
Vodafone - NO

I bought a Vodafone K3765 from this guy for R399: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/2861...ms_prepaid_No_contract_Quantity_to_clear.html
He also has the K3565 for R320: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/2861...ms_prepaid_No_contract_Quantity_to_clear.html

Gonna get my Cell C sim this weekend hopefully and let you guys know how that works out

Be careful - To the best of my knowledge that guy sells imported Vodafone Modems - They are not Vodacom supplied Vodafone modems - They are network locked to vodacom only!!
Only Vodafone branded modems sold locally by vodacom are unlocked....

Now why would they be locked to Vodacom if Vodacom didn't supply them?
If they are locked, it would be to Vodafone UK, or a Vodafone network in another country.
Only Vodafone branded modems sold locally by vodacom are unlocked....
Not true, the guys importing these modems know how to unlock them.

Vodacom/Vodafone use the same network identifier - They are infrastructure/Strategic Alliance partners , vodafone owns part of Vodacom.
I asked the guy and he said Locked to vodacom ........
Go see his Bidorbuy listing as posted here - someone else asked him and he said : "Locked to Vodacom"
