Ok I got my 60GB (5GB per month) sim on Saturday. I can confirm 100% that the bidorbuy modem works as this is the connection I'm using right now to post this message - no need to unlock :)

I am using the modem with my TP-Link 3420 Wireless N Router. The firmware on the modem needed updating to support the K3765 but it was very quick and very painless even for a complete networking n00b like me.

Good stuff, hope that this setup serves you well !!

I'm jealous. I also want an N router, mine are older, only support G.

Hi Guys

Am I understanding correctly that you can buy a 3G wifi router, plug your shiny new Cell C USB 3G modem into into and share the Cell C internet connection with your home PCs over wifi as you would with a wifi ADSL router?

Sorry for the noob question, I just wanna make sure before I go and spend almost a grand on a router, and I can't get Cell C support to understand my question.

That's about the gist of it.

With the TP-Link you can come away at under R600 with shipping.

I've tested Vodafone branded ZTE modems K4505-Z and K3805-Z and both work on Cell-C's UMTS 900 network.
The K4505-Z reports its connection speed as 21Mbps and the K3805-Z as 14.4Mbps.

I also tried a new pigtail from Poynting for the ZTE modems, post here.

Please post your impressions about these modems, particularly interested in K4505-Z in comparison to Huawei. Did you mean pigtail - not inductive coupler?

I prefer the Huawei E1820. A friend of mine bought the K4505-Z and it disconnects after being online for a while so he has gone back to using his old E220, which is why I still have his modem for testing. One day while driving, my E1820 was in my laptop on the passenger seat in the sun, when I picked up the laptop it was cooking, and the modem was too hot to touch, but it was still online and working perfectly.

Hey Guys. Can you please help me to figure out if the integrated 3g modem in my laptop will support Cell C's new 900 Mhz network? I've created a new thread for this, please check it out, and assist if possible:

[-]Cell C data sim on an Acer Travelmate 5730G-864G32MN with integrated 3G?[/-]

From the specs:
http://www.option.com/en/products/products/modules/gtm380e/specifications/#start
it looks like it supports UMTS @ 850, 1900 & 2100 only, sorry.

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to take the bundle with a modem. Gonna get the 21mbps speed stick.

PS: I deleted your thread, sorry again.

Now why did you go do that? It took me a long time to type out, format it, put a bulleted list, and get all the info down in an easy to understand format, to maximise the number of people who can understand what I'm saying, and get the most and best responses. And then you just go delete it!

From the datasheet for this device:
http://www.ericsson.com/solutions/m...s/mobile_broadband_module_datasheet_print.pdf
Bands:
WCDMA 2100/1900/850MHz
GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
It doesn't look like this device supports WCDMA/UMTS @ 900MHz so you should consider getting a Cell-C bundle that includes a modem.

stuck =/

Howzit guys,
Having a similar problem =/

I got myself a 2GB Data sim to work with my Huawei E220 modem. I'm also getting stuck on CellC Edge.

I'm using Mobile Partner and when I browse the available networks, I get:
SA02, MTN, VODA - All (2G)(3G)
CellC - only (2G)

I can manually register with VODA on 2G only (by selecting GSM only), if I try WCDMA only, I can't register with Voda.

I've tried the CellC sim in my Nokia N900 and it works at HSPA speeds immediately (speedtest: 4.21Mbps down, 2.1Mbps up, <100ms ping)

I asked my friend to bring his 5GB bundled E1820, I plug that in and I see CellC(2G)(3G) and it connects and browses and awesome HSPA+ speeds.

So basically, CellC just doesn't wanna give me 3G on my E220... very weird =/ (The minute I plug in my Vodacom simcard into the E220, I can connect at 3G speeds).

Using MDMA, forcing it to GPRS only I get this screenshot (roaming on Voda)
If I force MDMA to 3G, I can't connect (error 720), get this screenshot

Any ideas? CellC?

AFAIK, E220 doesn't support UMTS 900MHz, so it is why desn't show any CellC 3G signal.

yeah that'd be the logical explanation, but I went out and bought the bundle because cell C confirms the E220 should work here -(7.2Mbps 2.0Mbps)
and also these specs

I double checked that before I went and bought the data sim only.
