3G is absolute rubbish

Can't ping www.google.co.za at 1500 bytes either, but 1024 works well. I suspect they have blocked big pings, to avoid wasting bandwidth from plonkers like us using them to test....

edit:- 1472 bytes gets a reply, 1473 doesn't. I'm assuning they've blocked pings bigger than 1500 bytes, and that the overhead amounts to 27 or 28 bytes.

Could well be, I'll ask. ICMP does get a low priority and the easiest way to start a DoS would be with large pings.

Maybe another test that will immediately start with big packets, saving a file from a web page, ftp?

I understand. And I also understand your frustration. While my statement that the network works better than not for most people, you only care (and should) about your own environment.

Have we had people out at your place before?

Yip u have, from what i gathered my area has alot of users (more then it should i think) and we need another tower. Im hoping to hear from the techie on friday or monday about when a new tower is gonna be erected here

Cool, getting towers up nowadays is more difficult than anything, so I hope your area is being sorted. Let me know what they tell you and I can also follow up.

The VMC software only works for me once. If I try to reconnect I get error messages (port in use or connection error). Then I have to remove all the VMC software from the PC and reboot and allow it to re-install. Repeat ad-inifinitum.

So what should I be using? The VMC software or this Huawei software?

Which is easier and which works better? Which is more stable? And if I want to change from the latest VMC lite that is on the E220 modem now? How do I change to the other software? where can I start reading?

Thanks.

I also had major stability problems with the VMC Lite software in the E220. I took the modem to our local Vodacare Shop and they installed the Huawei software in the modem and I had no problems since. Works perfectly and does not drop connections. Go for the Huawei software.

Great thanks! I just got it to work! Seems a lot more stable so far! :)
