3G problem?

I've been trying to use fring, which works fine except I keep losing 3G signal for about a second, which disconnects me and then the signal's back again and it works. I set my phone to UMTS only so its not switching back to 2G. Anybody else having problems?

That's what I thought at first but if its cell breathing wouldn't I lose reception totally?

2G seems to be fine but then again I'm less than 100m away from a 2G tower that I can see out my window. The 3G tower's further away though AFAIK.

@Syndre, but your 3G phone [modem] is totally losing signal for a second or so and then getting signal back again...

It was happening every 5 mins or so before, doesn't really happen that often generally because I don't use it as my internet access for my pc, was just using fring on my phone. When I'm not using fring and I'm just using email etc. on my phone itself I usually have it set to GSM only.
