Hi guys. How will I know if I have received a 3G sim with my Data Card?

My Sim says WIB 2.6. No-where on the Sim it says 3G.

Please help.

At the back it should say C 3G1.0 or higher

Am I not suppose to get a 3G sim when I take out a contract with a 3G card?

It doesn't really make a difference, as a 16K or 32K sim will work the same the only thing a 3G sim does for you is allows you to make video calls as the 3G sim's were the only ones provisioned to make video calls, so if you're not going to use it for that then it shouldn't really make a difference.

One more difference is the 3G sim card has 128mb on it

Ok cool. Then it is sorted. As long as I know it's not going to make a difference in my reception.

Thanks MTNDD.

Piesang, have a look at http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=238004

Under benefits:
More reliable for 3G international roaming

and under costs:
A 3G SIM will cost the same as the current 2G SIM (at the discretion of the Service Provider).

I agree with you though, you are buying a 3G card, they should have given you a 3G SIM, especially since they should cost the same.

I also think so. Maybe I must go to them on Monday morning and ask them to do a sim swop. But I'm definately not paying.

Piesang, please let me know how it goes. I got two cards and both came with WIB 2.6 SIMs.

@Ginggs

Yes that's right one thing I forgot to mention was the 3G international roaming hence why the name USIM - Universal sim and I would agree with ginggs I don't see any reason why they couldn't give you a USIM

I was at MTNSP Century City now. And as usual I was the one feeling like a fool and came home without a 3G USIM.

They just say I don't need a 3G sim they just load DATAFAST on my package and that should do it.

So now I am where I am before I went there.

Who did you deal with there

Let me make some noise

I'll tell them that you are very, very IRATE as you want to use the sim when you roam and for that you need a USIM

See, there I go again. No names. What I do have is the number on the ticket they gave me. I'm sure you should be able to find out who helped me if you have the ticket number and the number of the simcard.

You make noise of sim cards.

When I inserted my mtn 3G sim into the datacard it worked.

Then I used my vodacom, set up a new profile, and its working (actually on HSDPA)
Mtn only have edge here, so I still use vodacom 4 now.

Whe I reinserted MTN sim, changes the setting to default (MTN) no reception, nothing, but in my phone the sim does work.

Unbelievable, but true.

Ok now I use the free minutes on the fone until the sim comes right on its own...

Now my data card do not pick up signal at all (it says emergency calls only) . PS. both simcards (vodac, MTN) is working in a phone, but not in the data card.

NOW I NEED HELP

This sounds like the problem I'm having with my father's card in Somerset West. Some times the card works perfectly, other times there's no reception and other times there's a signal but when I click on connect the application just shows "Authenticate" and eventually it times out.

I think its to do with signal strength, I brought his computer and card back to Cape Town and had no problems. Lynton from MTN Network Group has confirmed the area my father lives in has reception problems.

I don't think it is a reception problem, cause I have HSDPA on FULL bars.
something that the card don't pick up the sim.
Is there any way to reset the card. I'll try reinstalling the software 2nite.
