3G Sim with 3G Data Card

something that the card don't pick up the sim.
Is there any way to reset the card. I'll try reinstalling the software 2nite.

In your Fastlink Software go to Settings. Under network chane the Connection Type to 3G only. The card will reset. Then change it back to 3G preferred. That should reset the card again.

GGG, thanks.
Now I see what I have done.

1. - I've used MTN @home setting was gprs/edge (it worked cause there is signal)
2. - I've put my vodacom sim in, changed the setting to HSDPA/3G only (it worked there was hsdpa in my area)

here came the problem.

3. I left it on that setting HSDPA/3G , so my MTN did not pick up any signal
(no 3G from MTN in my area)

4. Then I went on the road, and here is no 3G from MTN or Vodacom, (and the setting was still on 3G only)

5. Piesang came to my rescue and Now I know what I did.

end result - change to a "only" profile , ONLY when you know you have what the "only" says.

I don't think it is a reception problem, cause I have HSDPA on FULL bars.

When this happens to me (the emergency calls only thing) I have no signal and the Connect button is greyed out.

Without doing anything, eventually a signal appears and the Connect button lights up.

You can check your signal strength by closing the datacard application and opening a connection in HyperTerminal to the "HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface" port. For the settings use 115200 bits per second, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and hardware flow control.

To see your signal strength, type AT+CSQ and press enter, the card should respond similar to the following: +CSQ: 20,99.
In this example, 20 is your signal strength out of a maximum of 31, which is about 65%.
This value can also be converted into dBm like this: -113 + (2 x CSQ)
So a CSQ value of 20 becomes -73dBm.

If you leave the HyperTerminal window open, the card will report changes in signal strength like this: ^RSSI:18

You might also see other messages similar to the following: ^MODE:5,4 and ^MODE:3,3 and ^MODE:3,2
Which I think represent 3G, EDGE and GPRS respectively.
If you see something that corresponds to HSDPA, please PM me.

You make noise of sim cards.

When I inserted my mtn 3G sim into the datacard it worked.

Then I used my vodacom, set up a new profile, and its working (actually on HSDPA)
Mtn only have edge here, so I still use vodacom 4 now.

Whe I reinserted MTN sim, changes the setting to default (MTN) no reception, nothing, but in my phone the sim does work.

Unbelievable, but true.

Ok now I use the free minutes on the fone until the sim comes right on its own...

No reception that's strange don't you want to please PM me your number I just want to check something on the network

Anyone respond to your noise?
Are we allowed to return our 2G SIM cards and get 3G USIM cards?

@ MTN DUDE.

In reply to one of your previous posts about the size of the usim card. Don't you mean it's 128k ?

Hey there,

In this case it did work, because there should be no reason when you take out a new contact with a new 3G or HSDPA device that you are not issued with a USIM, the only time you will keep the old sim is if you do an upgrade...........

If your's was a case where you took a new contact and they issued you with a 32K sim then you can return the normal 8K, 16K or 32K sim.

I went to Century City SP to collect my antenna on July 19 2006, they replaced the two 32K SIMs I was given with my datacards with 3G 128K USIMs and also my 8 year old 16K SIM in my main phone with a 32K SIM at no charge. :)

Thanks MTNDD!
