3G Upgrade to iOS4?

Forgive me if there is already a similiar thread but I didn't go looking for one.

I've been using my iphone 3G with iOS 3.1.3 for a very long time now and I haven't upgraded to iOS4 because I read a couple of people mentioning it slows down the iphone 3G way to much.

However, it seems that some of the latest apps doesn't work anymore on my phone. For instance I downloaded an app called SmartSync (latest version) with installous yesterday (try it before you buy it) but after I installed it and I open the app it just closes itself after a couple of seconds.

This is not the first time an app does this, and I find that when I go and download an older version (basicly before the apps were iOS4 compatible) they work. I would like to have the latest versions on my phone though.

Will an upgrade to iOS4 help? Should I upgrade (is it really that slow on a 3G)?

Or could it be that the app on installous is not working but the real thing from the app store will?
 
mine was slow, then I turned off spotlight/lightbox/lightroom/whatever and it was back to normal (pretty much)
 
my 3G handes 4.1 quite nicely.... I installed it as soon as it came out... no regrets!!
 
4.1 cannot be jailbroken.....rather update to 4.01
 
the issue about apps not working could be because it was cracked using a 3GS and not a 3G....they have different processors
3G - uses ARM6
3GS - uses ARM 7

When downloading from Installous look for someone who has ARM6 next to their name

That should solve your problem
 
yes, I did notice a slow down with 4.0.1, but this def improved with the 4.1 upgrade.
but as Nimz mentioned, 4.1 cannot be jailbroken
 
I see there is a huge thread on the apple forums on this as well.

I'll maybe do an update to 4.0.1 if I have a lot of time over a weekend somewhere, and if it is slow will try and go back to 3.1.3

A jailbreak for 4.1 would be the solution though.
 
Sorry to interupt your thread here, but...are you MadMan88? because i'm confused now, he also has an iPhone

No that's not me - have also seen that. Have tried changing my name but can't seem to.
