Wanted to purchase a 3GB prepaid data SIM for my mom, who does not need a lot of data, but wanted it to be valid for the whole year. After contacting 5 CellC stores in Cape Town and being told by each one "Sorry all sold out. Don't know when we will be getting any more.", I was about to pull out the little hair that I have! Could not believe that CellC was not interested in increasing their revenue at all.

Finally, a lady at the Blue Route store (think her name was Insaaf), said that I could buy an ordinary SIM and load it with a 3GB voucher (R399) that would be valid for the year. Did not believe her, but went ahead anyway. Lo and behold! It has exactly the same effect as purchasing the 3GB prepaid SIM!

Why CellC does not educate their sales people about all the options available is beyond me. A big thanks to Insaaf for making me aware of this. Hope this helps anybody else who is looking for this offer.

That info is on their website. Click on "Smartdata SIM Offer > 3GB Smartdata Voucher"

That's what I'll be doing when my 1 year is up with Cell C. Load the voucher on my current SIM and keep it as a backup for the next year.

I think the problem is that the offers are changing so often, it takes a while for the info to trickle down to the branch. Then you have to explain it to staff who might not be clued up

I think you was really refering to 2GB data SIM (2GBx12 months = 24GB), as I never seen 3GB data SIM, only 3GB Smartdata Vouchers. Looks like everybody is asking for 2GB or 5GB data SIM, currently out of stock.

As Madhawk indicated, there IS a 3GB data offer - SIM only or bundled with modem. Just amazed that sales staff are not aware of all the options & would be willing to lose a sale so easily.

Cellc's staff in general are idiots actually finding someone in any type of store with a brain is a challenge these days.

It is called "3GB Smartdata Voucher" - Voucher, not a "SIM". Anyway if you use your brain, you don't need to complain on stupidity of others. It has always been like that...

Indeed, got one this week. Punch in the vouchers number on the phone and get the data bundle. I did this on a prepaid SIM, not sure if it will work on a contract SIM.

Yip, as Madhawk pointed out: click on "Smartdata SIM Offer > 3GB Smartdata Voucher"
It says "Voucher", not "SIM".
Now I know for sure you made specific enquiry for "Smartdata SIM Promo", so you got right answer.

Dion Wired advertised the 3GB Sim+ speedstick bundle for R399 this week until the end of November.

At Woodlands they told me it was an advertising mistake and the price is actually R749 and they were not prepared to sell it at the advertised price.

I got one 3GB Sim+ speedstick bundle yesterday from Dion Wired at The Grove for R399 as advertised, no arguments.

Must add, the CellC in Cresta had no 3GB + Modems, got one from Game Cresta @ R 749.

It's R749 for the whole year including the modem, but you only get 3GB.

If you run out, then you have to top up with Smartdata bundle rates. Click on "Smartdata Bundles"
