3I/ATLAS thread

All comets accelerate when approaching the sun and decelerate after perihelion when going away from the sun. It's caused by the sun's gravity.
You think NASA forgot this fact? What if this one was accelerating after the sun?

Which is both terrifying and awesome at the same time.

This thing is about 5km long.. which would put quite a dent in the bumper.
How awesome would it be if we could hitch a ride on something like this though

Again, you reference this abstract and yet again fail to mention this, which is contained in the abstract despite it being pointed out to you before:

It has been theorized that the plasmas (AKA "plasmoids") of the thermosphere are attracted to electromagnetic activity and powerful thunderstorms, and upon descending into the lower atmosphere have been classified as UFOs and UAP.

You really, really, really do want to believe in aliens visiting us, don't you? Which is statistically very close to 0 as a probability.

Comet 3I/ATLAS has shown signs of acceleration after passing the Sun, which is likely due to non-gravitational forces such as gas emissions as it heats up. This behavior is unusual for comets and has drawn significant interest from scientists

Edit:

Comet 3I/ATLAS continues to accelerate even after passing the Sun, likely due to the loss of mass as it heats up and emits gas. This non-gravitational acceleration is a characteristic behavior of comets as they approach the Sun

First comet in history to do this.

Did you know what are Unidentified Anomalous Objects?

I cant wait for our new overlords. Lets gooooooo

Jesus remind me to get you nutters some tinfoil from wespack tomorrow

I differ.

There are simply too many unknowns. We even battle to define life, what to say intelligent life. Too think we are the only planet with life, or if not, the most intelligent, would be a bit arrogant.

We got hung up on "the Goldilocks zone" for life to exist on a planet, since proven invalid by realizing life exists in parts of our very own planet we previously thought impossible.

The simple truth is we don't know.

/Edit: Which reminds me, I have to pack my bag - it's my ride coming - so chill everybody. Will be back on the 2nd of Jan 2026.

History implies recording.

So yes, there are many unrecorded comets that may or may not have done this but this is the first one that is recorded.
And is baffling the scientists. Same as quantum physics, the more we look the less we know.

Yes. Are you suggesting that they come from this comet?
No correlation except for being anomalous. 3i/Atlas hails from a solar system much older than The Solar System and the unidentified plasma beings are attracted to EM radiation or light in the thermosphere.

Interesting to note that plasma is the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid and gas.

I'm curious how they worked this one out.

I have never stated that the probability of alien life is statistically close to 0. The probability is statistically close to 1, which means it is most likely a definite. I have stated that the probability of intelligent life travelling the cosmos to arrive at planet Earth is close to 0.
