I have been hanging doggedly onto Xp as my OS , refusing to even consider "upgrading". Until today i have never seen cause to change over ... but it seems that an internal HDD that is larger than 2.2tb can not run with XP. Worse if the HDD was formatted to GPT on a Win 7 system then win Xp wont even resister 2/3rds of the drive.

Anyway the question i would like to pose is this :

Am i destined to take the plunge and convert or can some one please advise me on a work around?

Upgrade your OS to at least Windows 7. Also does your motherboard support that drive?

wow , after an hour on Google i have come to the same conclusion. More than a couple of forums have pointed me to that same link.

First check if your motherboard supports that drive. My pc is less than a year old , i assume it does. Can you suggest a way for me to check pls ?

Hello,

If you are going to use this software for your needs then:

taken from the gpt loader user guide:
Recommended Target Environment
Paragon GPT Loader can operate smoothly on different computer configurations. The necessary
requirements are:

 Windows XP system, and a 3TB drive
 System Administrator login privileges to install Paragon GPT Loader;

Generally speaking, if you bought the motherboard less than a year it should be fine to say that your bios will support booting from 2.2tb+ drives if the bios is UEFI and you are using an OS like windows 7 or 8 etc.

Have a great day

Kind Regards

dang i thought i had hidden that file !

anyway : update : just finished installing win7 and all is in order. although sound drivers are giving me a headache.

Edit : sound is now sorted > now i need to learn the ins and outs of networking on win7
