Seagate has confirmed that it is planning a 3TB drive in 2010, but there are challenges

but 4k sector drives should solve the issue without resorting to the long LBA standard.

Kinda depends on your age. But I reckon so. Will probably be a phase change drive though.

Not quite as 5 years ago I had a good 320gb of drive space in my relatively cheap system, same goes for the other figures.

What worries me is that with increased drive capacities comes a decreased MTBF - something that should be a major factor when it comes to the amount of data you can squeeze onto one of these. I think the next time I do a proper setup, it'll be RAID1/RAID5/RAID10 (Whichever I feel like) and a bunch of <=2TB drives.

Such a non issue.

People looking to buy cutting edge drives are highly unlikely going to be running old equipment and OS. It will take quite a while before these drives become the default, but which time most people will be compatible anyway.

30TB, Nah, I you can fill it as fast as those drive's can Copy.... and without Duplicates... If a Decent Blueray movie is about 30 - 50Gb.. it is not that much.

There's maybe a dozen or so decent BD movies out there - across all regions A, B and C. The rest is the same garbage just 4x the pixels of the DVD version.

Do you know of a website that shows which movies use the full res and which ones don't? There are a couple movies which I'd like to purchase the Blu ray versions of but if they're just upscaled I won't waste my time.

3TB is just too small imo, all the other components of a pc have been increasing tenfold, but hdds are lacking. It's quite easy to fill up 3TB space in todays multimedia world. We need to get bigger drives ASAP.
