Congrats to telkom for finally upgrading their service...marred by two things.

1) What will your upstream speed be? I see they quietly dropped the upstream on 384k when they upgraded all the 192k users.

2) They've managed to take down a huge percentage of their ADSL lines today. Not a single person I know who has ADSL has been able to connect.

Since Telscum haven't advertised an increase in upload speeds, I suppose it stays at 256kbps.

Our 1024 line has been running between 150 Kbs and 320 Kbs the entire day. I wonder if they chose to divide some of us by 4 so that you lot can get 4 MB lines....

If the trials go well then it would only make sense to upgrade 512k to 1Mbps

well i must do add my 2cents - its amazing to experience ~400K/sec.... BUT - in some cases this has got a very negative effect on line stability..

i'm currently having telkom running around to try and sort this out (having alot of synch issues) - they repaired some local leads and verified water at some points....yet not working any better.

its not fun playing bf2/css/wow when you are receiving Loss of Signal 30-40 times a day ...due to some bug on your line (in my case) or telkom telling you that 3.7km from the exchange is just too far..

maybe its too far from the exchange for true 4mips but hell i was receiving less problems on 1024 & 512.....

so i'm clueless as how to approach this .....people with quality lines can enjoy it and so it must/shall be!!

me = just saaad..

this after dlink 300t , 504 , billion 5102g , marconi 4port , marconi 4port wifi - none can provide a stable connection on 4meg=30-40 los/day , 1024=10-20 los/day , 512=10-5 los/day.

You dont have uncapped IS or anything with your ISP that would limit you?

I have a standard SAIX 4GB unshaped account via SAOL. I guess I must still be limited in some way by the exchange or beyond that. Oh well, 1MB is probably enough for me for now, given my cap. I shall look at this again in a couple of weeks and see if it improved.

I would not be surprised if the infrastructure is not able to handle the 4mb upgrade.
