40% drop in ADSL prices?

Afrikane beat me to it, but yeah how can the media produce such a bold/generalized? statement ? and suprise suprise their truely HUGE, MAMMOTH, REMARKABLE profit gets a tiny headline further down on news24 and fin24 too ;)

Unfortunatly our regulator will probably rubber stamp these prices...(after he finished his chicken licken and before his afternoon nap).

In Australia the regulator threw out Telstra local loop rental pricing structure because it was anti-competitive... don't think we will be so lucky in this country with our weak regulator..

If you read earlier in this thread, someone said that it was Telkoms plan to cover/mask their MASSIVE profit with a "MASSIVE" decrease in adsl pricing

Well hopefully ICASA _won't_ have anything to say, because all they could possibly do is stall these reductions for another 6 months.

What truth???? The prices are dropping end of story.
dropping net R17 .... hmmm, calculating my total monthly cost for internet, this is less than 3%, they should change the wording to "Telkom proposes a ridiculously insignificant price drop to overshadow their enourmous profits, and make the dumb part of their user base happy"

Keep in mind that this announcement is done at the time where ICASA is deliberating over some pretty good presentations in favour of forcing Telkom's prices down. The reductions will only kick in come August so... 2+2=?

2+2=666?

2+2= Whatever telkom says they equal, at least in the foreseeable future.

Telkom...

R2 per customer bandwidth cost
R2 per month maintenance of equipment per customer...

R2 + R2 = R245 ADSL 384 Line Rental

No, no-one can stall these reductions, except the minister, which she will not do. Intracacies of who holds the powers in terms of Telkom's pricing is discussed in the "Telkom files for overall price...." thread, in various posts, from page 9 onwards.
