400Gbps speeds reached

Wouldn't help. Telkom will give you 400gb line, no problem. However, they will enforce a 50g cap international and 100gig local. Also, you must use it after 7pm to ensure fair usage. It will be quite cool. One click and you're done for the month.
 
Sigh! Yes, improvements constantly in fiber transmission speeds yet we still have to get fiber to curb/home here. Hopefully one day! With 400Gbps I could probably have video walls all over my house streaming full HD content 24/7 and still have tons of bandwidth to spare;-) So in essence, this would be useless for the time being, but for backbone services it is a dream:-)

and if you're with telkom you'll have 10gb data cap :D

400gbps transfer rate of 50GB per second. you could download the internet in roughly 3.25years...NICE

They don't have 1 computer transferring data, they will have a a specialized switch, i know there are switches capable of switching data into the Tbps speed so they will have multiple data sources at one end and then multiple clients downloading data to simulate real-world uses, it is possible to do it with modified custom equipment, but you wont see that can of speed on the normal computers, even top end PC's RAM only transfers at a peak at 400 Gbps and thats if all the right conditions are met.

Sigh, why is the world so focussed on speed?! Stability is way more important! Had access to UP's new 10gb line, was downloading at 48MB/s and guess what? My Hard drive couldn't write the files fast enough. 400Gbps is brilliant for infrastructure! Glad there is improvement, but I feel there is lack of research being done on technologies that the public can use.
Its not that there is a lack of research being done, look overseas FTTH(fiber to the home) is becoming a norm, in sweden you pay R1000 for uncapped 1Gbps line when fiber first came out for businesses people where going insane about it. Its all a matter of time before we start getting this kind of infer structure. Overseas you dont have problems like we have, if your tele company wants to do it right like its done in first world countries then there is never a problem with infer-structure it becomes a problem with back end backbones that are ment to carry these fat lines to the exchanges. Look where the money is at nobody wants to pay for ****ty internet, but there are alot of people that would like to pay for the expensive high speed line's, especially companies. My head office overseas in germany is paying a arm and a leg for there multiple 10 Gb links to there head office. high speed is where's the money at the research has already been done for the lower end and it works where it matters, its just sad that southafrica does not matter sicne we have a **** adsl infer-structure. Using lower end fiber to link our DSlams, our infer-structure is **** and needs to be updated and with this kind of new technology it provides us with higher speeds. The main reason why we have caps is to ensure people dont abuse the internet lines constantly since we where limited on our total bandwidth, now imagine if they had enough total bandwidth to provide majority of the country with 1 Mbps due to this research dont you think it would be a whole lot better then having a cap? this research is the research we need higher sea cable speeds, higher speeds between exchanges will help lower costs to the end user. its a fact instead of maintaining multiple fibre threads how much cheaper would it be just to have 2, with one as a back up?
ssd's are way to slow for this kind of thing they will take it stright to ram or from ram drives.
Wonder when they going to bring out network cards which can transfer at 400gbps to make it usable or even 10 gbps :P

Telkom announced that RSA will get 400Gbps in the year 3127. They first need to implement uncapped in year 2378. Yeah can't wait!!
 
As a matter of interest...these new systems mentioned are already in use by Telkom on their New Gen network linking all the big Cities in the country and upgrades are constantly being done to get the bandwidth on the fiber network closer to the 400Gb level...They are not as behind the times as we think they are

Just thought you would be interested in this little fact...
