4850 with Accelero S1

My 8800GT gets quite toasty, but until it starts physically affecting my PC experience I'm not shelling out for aftermarket cooling :D

Yea, unless you going to OC' the card stock should be fine, but then again my case is soo small and has crap airflow I would probably get one any-way :o

Preaching to the choir ;)

I've managed to overclock it a fair bit (just to see where it's limits are) and the stock cooler handled it well.

I think you get free thermal paste with any decent aftermarket VGA cooler.

Of course you get, but I'd rather spend R100 extra on a proper brand name thermal paste that lowers the temperatures a bit more...
/me has a heat problem in his case :o

Now suddenly my budget that was 100% reserved for the 4870 is getting split up for the 4870, proper cooling for the 4870, a better PSU for the 4870(Only have a 460W at the moment :() etc etc for the 4870, so R500-ish seems fair. I'm a student, so the lower the price, the more fair it is :p. Then one still needs some proper thermal paste and then I need to bribe someone to do it for me. Thermal paste and coolers scare the Begeebers out of me :o

The 4870's cooler is fine, you don't need anything for that, it even chucks it outside your case, which the Accelero does not,
..it's the 4850 that desperately needs something better..
I'd still replace the thermal paste tho.
Provided you up the fan a bit..

Would the Thermalright HR-03-GT VGA Cooler fit? It can fit on a HD3850/70 so it should be just about the same. :o

I saw some comparison between very expensive artic cooling thermal paste and normal thermal paste, the difference is like 2 degrees.

At least the Accelero won't be dumping the 80degree cooled air, but only <40 degree cooled air. But you do have a point. I'll have to see how it effects my case first. With the stock cooling comes the noise aswell though - I hate noise :( Better get my hands on some Yate Loons for my case at least then - 2*2 of them stacked together to improve airflow at a low noise level.

2 degrees is 2 degrees less I have to worry about ;)

The best part for Accelero is that if it's winter and you can always use it as a passive silent cooler.
